The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?

Can anyone explain to me how these verses work in tandem? It seems as if there are contradictions.

Matthew 7:7

>Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.

Matthew 7:8

>For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.

Matthew 7:21

>Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven.

Here is the breakdown IMO.

If you:

Ask → given

knock → opened

But, also

if jesus:

says no to you → not given

I left out the word seek, because that is not mentioned in 7:21, the word used is "says" "who says to me". And I believe that is referring to asking/knocking.

thanks.

And I can see the argument for this meaning that only those who do gods work will enter, hence "but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven"

But, why have 7:7/8 if you are going to change the precedent in 7:21?

Asking denotes desire of mind, seeking - of will. But not to give rise to dead faith, which have no charity and bears no fruit, Our Lord says that asking and seeking have to be knocking too - an action, namely doing the Will of th Father - keeping comandments, living out gospel, works of mercy, keeping duties - in one word being charitable.

For without faith it is imposible to please God but faith without works anvileth not.

Eventually, read Haydock and/or a Lapide.

that didnt answer my question. and im not going to read another book. theres 3 sentences or so here that are clear contradictions. can you maybe summarize what this other book you are talking about says?

If you are inable to understand the basic idea being conveyed in sentences and say they are equal because someone used the same word twice, you are ignorant not only because of your limited mind, bit your perverse intent

>>ask

>>knock

This is referring to earnest seekers, who are trying know themselves and their relation to God, in time they will find what they seek.

>but also "Lord Lord" – not given

this refers to people who assume they have "found" and so call Jesus "Lord" yet they are missing something, namely good fruits, and they are missing this because they have only found a name and not a living faith.

Anyone can agree to historic facts about Christ and even call on him, but that doesn't mean they were earnest seekers who follow his teachings.

>Oh noes, you've caught us out in a lie, great and fabled atheistbro. Oooooh, noooeeesss, how will we ever recover …?

Is that what you wanted to read?

This is why you have to read the WHOLE Bible to understand it.

And you have to read Mt 7:21 in context: about specifically what is He referring? Refer sheep and goats.

>first two cited verses

In context of prayer.

>last one

In context of saving faith and demonstrating genuine faith through good works.

There, done. Next thread.

so, it seems that what you are saying is that some words in the bible aren't literal, and have some inference, while others don't and are meant as is. how do you come to this conclusion?

>>709141

>Oh noes, you've caught us out in a lie, great and fabled atheistbro. Oooooh, noooeeesss, how will we ever recover …

not what i said at all.

Read the whole NT.

The context isn't that hard to interpret. Dont snipe verses out of context.

If you find a difficult section look up early church fathers, they often answer such questions and set a precedent.

Not all who call Jesus Lord Lord get saved but those who do the will of the father.
