The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?

Hey /christian/, I have recently been put in charge of the college age youth group for my Church. Many of the members broke off to make their own study group, leading just three of us.

I don't feel like advertising our group as a ministry since it may turn people away. I need that certain "hook" to draw people in. It is a niche market, i.e. college age kids who want to learn about Christ.

Any advice or help you can give will be greatly appreciated.

Well, I can't necessarily give you advice on drawing in new members, but I would like to remind you that it is imperative that no matter what you do, you never compromise on Biblical truth in order to appease members/potential members. As a matter of fact, this will be more likely to drive people away than attract them; however, just as a small, God-fearing basement church is better than a thousand-member charismatic church, the metric for the success of your group should never be member count, but rather the spiritual growth of the members you do have. I will pray for God to give you the wisdom needed to establish a group which will bring glory to Him.

You probably have a terrible personality. For the overwhelming majority of people, church is nothing but a social club.

Be straight, if you try to "hook" people into it by making it sound like something else, they will be disappointment or not arrive for the purpose of it.
