It used to be. Some AA meetings are still very Christian. It is not a top-down hierarchical organization, its individual units composed (mostly) of individuals who wish to stop drinking utilizing the twelve steps. It really can work if you find a good Christian group, but it can blow if it's just a bunch of drunks going because they are court ordered to do so or you have people claiming the 'universe' or 'greater humanity' is their 'higher power'. They got lax on the language that focused on God in an effort to help more people and I believe that act in itself did the exact opposite.
