>before any event spells disaster for humanity such as Nuclear war, rising sea levels or artificial intelligence taking over?
Well first of all if you mean by "spelling disaster" meaning extinction, we know that won't happen because there is still yet Scripture that has to be fulfilled.
Second, it says very clearly in 2 Thessalonians 2 and in the Olivet discourse (Mt. 24, Mark 13, Luke 21) that we will, and all throughout the New Testament in general that we will have tribulation. Whether that be in the end-times or not, the fact remains either way. It's best to be prepared and not to think you will be spared any troubles.
1 Peter 2:19-21
For this is thankworthy, if a man for conscience toward God endure grief, suffering wrongfully.
[20] For what glory is it, if, when ye be buffeted for your faults, ye shall take it patiently? but if, when ye do well, and suffer for it, ye take it patiently, this is acceptable with God.
[21] For even hereunto were ye called: because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow his steps:
>If God will insure that we will be with him in heaven long before anything like that can happen should we just not do anything about those issues?
What do you propose "we" do? I don't think there's anything wrong with trying to keep order and promote the peace generally, but ultimately all you can do is keep your personal integrity, exercise a genuine relationship with God by hearing and believing his word and praying to him, and to be spiritually and mentally ready for the worst, knowing it will come. I always remember 1 Corinthians 10:13 which says God will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape.
