My guess would be that it's because of atheistic evolutionism, which says we are merely animals with bigger brains. I think the solution would be make society believe in creationism or theistic evolution, but i think creationism is better because in theistic evolution we are still part of the animal kingdom and hardly differs from normal evolutionism ( The difference being is that God used evolution to create humans with a purpose ).
