The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?

Matthew 12:22-30 brings an interesting point about how you shouldn't be able to cast out demons in other names, but there must be a limit to how much you can do unchristians practices and places something Christian on top to validate everything else. like being a Christian Freemason, Mormon, Jehovah Witness or Christian Zionist. Notice the name in the webm prays to "from Jesus to Christ" in his prayer. The bible also talks about false churches, prophets, spirits, but wouldn't that apply to Matthew 12:22-30? wouldn't that mean that it's impossible for something to be evil if it pledges alliance to Jesus?

>22Then a demon-possessed man who was blind and mute was brought to Jesus, and He healed the man so that he could speak and see. 23The crowds were all amazed and asked, “Could this be the Son of David?”

>24But when the Pharisees heard this, they said, “Only by Beelzebul, the prince of the demons, does this man drive out demons.”

>25Knowing their thoughts, Jesus said to them, “Every kingdom divided against itself will be laid waste, and every city or household divided against itself will not stand. 26If Satan drives out Satan, he is divided against himself. How then can his kingdom stand?

>27And if I drive out demons by Beelzebul, by whom do your sons drive them out? So then, they will be your judges. >28But if I drive out demons by the Spirit of God, then the kingdom of God has come upon you.

>29How can anyone enter a strong man’s house and steal his possessions, unless he first ties up the strong man? Then he can plunder his house.

>30He who is not with Me is against Me, and he who does not gather with Me scatters.

>wouldn't that mean that it's impossible for something to be evil if it pledges alliance to Jesus?

But what does it mean though? Is it really "Jesus" if one makes grave errors about Him?

The apostles already highlight three sine qua non points - one must recognize Him as Son of God and one must believe He really came in the flesh and really was resurrected. The Ecumenical Councils highlight more doctrine, such as dyophysitism.

So that already rules out a bunch of people like the Jehova's Witnesses, or anybody who tries to use Jesus's name without being one of His (see Acts 19:13-16).

But what makes one "of Jesus"? Mark 9:38-41 shows that being part of the canonical Church is in fact not an absolute requirement. What then? I would argue that if somebody believes in Jesus appropriately (that is, following both what the scriptures intend to say and what the ecumenical councils say), they are a sheep of Christ even if they are outside of His flock at the present time.

So, IMO, an Orthodox can exorcize. A Catholic can exorcize. A Lutheran can exorcize. Even a Baptist can exorcize if his beliefs about Christ are correct. But a Jehova's Witness can't exorcize.

Note also that many churches have the right idea of letting priests handle the job of exorcizing, as it is obviously an useful aspect of pastoral care. I'd trust somebody who's specially trained as an exorcist over some random person, even if they're Christologically orthodox.
