I have bouts and periods of lack of faith pretty often, i cant get out of my mind that life is short, precarious and brutish. That the Lord doesn't really care what happens to me since im just one among billions. I fully believe in the existence of God but hold no faith in his word or promises.

I also cant shake the feeling and thought that the bible has been tampered with by men for their own gain and societal control. Which makes me not read the word. How can i overcome this hurdle? I pray myself to sleep nearly every night.

First of, God cares about you more than you can ever know. If you follow God's path righteously, he will always deliver you good grace.

Second, if you don't hold to God's word, then you deny him, read your Bible anon. if You never read one, start with the New Testament, first 4 books at least, then move on to the Old Testament.

The Bible has many metaphors, historical context, poetry, etc. in other words, it is a multitude of works. If you're afraid of it having been tampered with, study the reliability of it, you'll be surprised how well it held up across time.

And when you have lack of faith, everyone does, struggle through it with study and prayer.

If you weren't important to God you would never have been born. He is your Lord and sustainer, the ultimate reason your atoms don't disintegrate back into the void and your soul falls asleep is because of the power of God. It's not enough to believe God exists, you have draw nearer to him.

Hand all your worries and fears over to God, let go of your egoism. You have to test the hypothesis, even if you don't believe that the bible is legit just read it anyway and meditate on it. Even if you think God doesn't care, just rely on him anyway. See how it goes.

I advice you to take a break from "worldly" things. Avoid entertainment such as music, movies, series, games, etc (at least for now). Spend your free time enriching yourself with knowledge and more importantly, seeking God, and reading and studying the Bible.

I have come to realize that many worldly things, even when they're not sinful, put out our fire. Things that seem completely harmless leave me feeling spiritually wounded. The days I spend a lot of time studying the Bible are the days I feel most spiritually fulfilled and alive, and strongest in faith.
