The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?

'But I say to you that whoever looks at a woman to lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart' (Matthew 5:28)

Now in summer when walking around town I cannot help but to see attractive women with revealing clothing. I try not to look at them, but in general when I walk around I look at people, and if they are attractive of course I think so myself 'wow, she looks good' and so on.

Is this considered lust? How to deal with this? Should I just avoid looking at other people at all? I try to be aware of my surroundings in general, but if this is what it takes…

I think you know what lust is. There is nothing wrong with acknowledging a woman is beautiful, but if your mind wanders and you start to desire, it's lust.

Yeah, the first look, when you first notice/see her and you/your body/your instincts as a sexual being kick in, there's absolutely nothing wrong with this. Just continue on your way and let the look pass as if she were any other human being who you looked at/passed/inconsequentially noticed while walking along the street.

What is wrong is going in for the second look, to treat your eyes, get a little kick while she's still in your field of view, like a guilty snack that if not bought under control has the potential to lead into further deeper fantasy for the purposes of titilation and self gratification. At that point I would say you've wondered into lustful territory.

>Just continue on your way and let the look pass as if she were any other human being who you looked at/passed/inconsequentially noticed while walking along the street.

Or goes without saying that also if you're a single and capable of catching a ladies attention in such a situation there would also be nothing wrong with, spurred on by the initial attraction, actually going up to her and trying to converse with her as another human being with a view to getting to know her as a potential mate (and not to bang her obvs) off the base of the attraction, if you were interested in doing so. But yeah appreciate the chance of meeting a suitable Christian woman this way is extremely low, but my point is that you don't have to go around and avoid looking at people - it would be perfectly reasonable if you had the confidence like I say to talk to a stranger you saw and found attractive as another human being and with a view to getting to know her as a human being and not an object who's purpose is to serve as a feast for your eyes and other senses for your gratification.

>Lust is disordered desire for or inordinate enjoyment of sexual pleasure. Sexual pleasure is morally disordered when sought for itself, isolated from its procreative and unitive purposes.

>CCC 2351

You lust when you think of a woman, or look at one, regardless of the level of clothing and consciously think that you would like to have sex with her or you imagine having sex with her or deliberately arouse yourself.

It's definitely not a sin to think that someone looks good. It's not even a sin to admire certain body parts specifically, but if you have problems with sexual arousal and the sins that stem from it then you'd better avoid it for safety's sake
