I would suggest understanding the meaning of certain verses online,

If you are looking for an alternative to Christianity I would suggest C.S. Lewis "Mere Christianity" and other books on Christianity as they are very good.

If you want a basic idea of Christianity you could watch the movie "Son Of God", It's a very nice and a bit informative movie though not 100% correct, but it could rile up your interest.

Nothing can beat reading the bible and you should make a schedule to read at least one passage of it everyday, You could finish John in i guess 21 days.

You should start with the new testament first in this order

just read the bible and take notes with it, get some basic theological texts to compare with, i assume you'll get cathodox ones since you're actually interested in learning, worry about that later

you don't need any "special skills" to intrepret God's word, study bibles, reference bibles, etc are how you start believing insane dogma by getting the word to form around dogma instead of the other way around. just read it cover to cover first and foremost.

also if you're an english speaker only use the kjv most of the new ones are bad
