I was reading "Fear and Trembling" maybe it was way too advanced, but I felt he was creating too much opposition between faith and reason saying that Abraham should be our exemplar in faith because he knew in his heart that God would never make him go through with killing Issac.
I think that it's rather much to say that because Abraham wasn't an independent person that we shouldn't be either. In short Abraham reminds me of how I treated my father's commands at the age of 3. Although the theme of sacrifice is developed in the story, child sacrifice condemned, and faith restored, ultimately, I see it as God foreshadowing the sacrifice of the Son.
