The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?

The study posted is about how much genes influence our political beliefs and I wanted to ask, Do our genes influence our religious beliefs as well?, are we destined to be christians? in the same way that atheist are destined to be atheists?

Genetics may play a role in what choices we are more likely to make, but the choice is ultimately ours.

They may at most predispose us towards certain choices, not determine them.

e90219 No.659233

Maybe like a 40%, the rest would be influenced by your environment and eventually epigenetically imprinted

01a155 No.659244

Someone might be more inclined to be selfish or un agreeable, but if they made a decision based on an ideal like Christ that goes against their nature like you do then how does dna effect their decision making?

Temperament and character is 50-50%, but environmental components affect up to 70% of one's personality.

We wouldn't be the same persons right now if we didn't ever discover imageboards, for example.

Anyways, sounds like a typical (((study))) to me that tries to rationalize every little thing in life

Look at US Catholicism compared to """""Catholicism""""" in Mexico and below. There's a large difference in genetics. Which ones would you say act like true Catholics?

yes, Christians have genes, too

>Do our genes influence our religious beliefs as well?

Not if you are a Christian because romans 9:6-8

>Not as though the word of God hath taken none effect. For they are not all Israel, which are of Israel:

>Neither, because they are the seed of Abraham, are they all children: but, In Isaac shall thy seed be called.

>That is, They which are the children of the flesh, these are not the children of God: but the children of the promise are counted for the seed.

So if you are a child according to the promise like galatians 4:21-31 described as according to the elect, then you aren't of the flesh but of promise. But it still is possible that genes influence those that are after the flesh, and not the Spirit like romans 8:1-12 describes.

<are we destined to be christians

If by "christian" you are referring to the elect who could be saved, or who can fall away like in 2 peter 2:1-22, then yes because romans 9:11-18

>(For the children being not yet born, neither having done any good or evil, that the purpose of God according to election might stand, not of works, but of him that calleth;)

>It was said unto her, The elder shall serve the younger.

>As it is written, Jacob have I loved, but Esau have I hated.

>What shall we say then? Is there unrighteousness with God? God forbid.

>For he saith to Moses, I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion.

>So then it is not of him that willeth, nor of him that runneth, but of God that sheweth mercy.

>For the scripture saith unto Pharaoh, Even for this same purpose have I raised thee up, that I might shew my power in thee, and that my name might be declared throughout all the earth.

>Therefore hath he mercy on whom he will have mercy, and whom he will he hardeneth.

Also see romans 11:5-7

>Even so then at this present time also there is a remnant according to the election of grace.

>And if by grace, then is it no more of works: otherwise grace is no more grace. But if it be of works, then is it no more grace: otherwise work is no more work.

>What then? Israel hath not obtained that which he seeketh for; but the election hath obtained it, and the rest were blinded

Just because the elect are shewn mercy by God doesn't mean God has to continue in that mercy but rather God will shew mercy on whom He sheweth mercy. But nevertheless 1 corinthians 2:12-15 applies in that you would have had to been born of the Spirit john 4:24 also john 3:3 to recieve the things of God as the natural man cannot recieve the things of God 1 corinthians 15:50. Also also the soul, and spirit, and body are three seperate things in 1 thesselonians 5:23

>And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.

TLDR; Christians aren't affected by genes for belief as God giveth the increase 1 corinthians 3:3-8 but non-Christians are affected by genes for belief.
