The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?

Proverbs 6:16-19

16 These six things doth the Lord hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him:

17 A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood,

18 An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief,

19 A false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren.

What is meant by the last one and how can it be avoided?

Sowing discord is pretty hard to categorize, it takes many forms but gossip is certainly a clearly recognizable instance. Don't talk religion or politics at social gatherings unless solicited to do so might also be a good idea, (or the gathering is for the purpose of religion or politics of course).

And NEVER gossip. At worst gossip can be used to be an agent of someone else's antagonism, like someone saying "he said this about you" and even very little things, but it's social arson expressed in varying degrees.

<Don't talk religion

1 corinthians 10:31

>Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.

Ye ought to edify the brethern, as 1 corinthians 14:26 states let all things be done unto edifying and anything not of faith is sin romans 14:23. Repent of your adultery.

>Don't talk religion or politics at social gatherings unless solicited to do so

When do men ever want to hear the word of our Lord? We are to spread the good news and do so for the glory of God.

I've always wanted to know: what exactly is gossip? What's the difference between talking about an incident involving the leader of the country or your MTG trading card club and talking about how promiscuous Stacy is?

One concerns the affairs of a public official, the other is called Detraction.

Detraction is airing out damaging information on someone with no purpose other than to share it. This information can even be something of actual immoral note (say, cursing your mother on the phone), but unless there's a clear and Christian purpose in it, it is considered sinful.
