Does /christian/ support owning guns?

Luke 22:36

Then said he unto them, But now, he that hath a purse, let him take it, and likewise his scrip: and he that hath no sword, let him sell his garment, and buy one.

Your reference to scripture pretty much proves that we are required by God to own a deadly weapon of some kind.

I wouldn't say it's required, but there's certainly nothing wrong with it.

I knew a man who claimed that owning firearms was "anti-christian" and that he "wants to die instead of hurt another person" so he can "be with the martyrs". It was clear to me that his faith was vain, or at the very least he's very weak to vanity and pride.

Not only is it useful, but shooting is a fun hobby. Everyone should go to the firerange at least once.
