These things don't fit into your interpretation that the sword he speaks of is the sword of the spirit.
Indeed the first time they were sent out they were armed with nothing but the sword of the spirit; the Word of God. Their needs were met by providence. Now Jesus tells them to prepare physically for hard times, taking care for their finances and protection. If you compare with Acts they follow His instruction.
As far as the account of Peter and the servant's ear, look at what Jesus says here–
>37 For I say unto you, that this that is written must yet be accomplished in me, And he was reckoned among the transgressors: for the things concerning me have an end.
Jesus chose to go to the cross, He didn't resist the shame of crucifixion. all these things were accomplished.
