Christchan is back up after maintenance! The flood errors should now be resolved. Thank you to everyone who submitted a bug report!

I know only some denominations are against surgery, but what about kind altering drugs?

I have been struggling and self-loathing for years, only to recently discover I might have been dealing with untreated ADHD all these years.

If your leg is broken, you wear a cast and take a crutch and maybe pain medication. If your brain is broken, are you supposed to just ignore it?

This is probably a "ask your priest" type question, to be honest.

I grew up Methodist and my dad (pastor) was diagnosed with ADHD as an adult but never got medication for it. I’m just sort of a loser to him for not being able to get over it on my own and have a dysthymia diagnosis too, but I think it might be secondary depression from ADHD.

>some denominations are against surgery

bloody JWs and Christian Scientists are against surgery

Not actual Christians.

>Are adderall and other antidepressants fine to take from a Christian standpoint?

Christians don't reject pharmaceuticals.

Christians don't reject surgery.

Christians don't reject modern medicine.

Christians generally don't reject psychology though we are plenty wary of an unbeliever poking around in your sub-conscious convincing you that the root of all your issues is "that nasty conviction that Jesus is the Son of God"

ADHD drugs are fine. Though I would be deeply sceptical of anyone that blithely says "there it is" and points to "undiagnosed ADHD". It's too much the "catch-all" mental disease these days. I'd do my own research or get a second opinion if I were you. But, if that's what it is, then get treatment. And if treatment works, ???, WIN!!!

BUT, more than this, I would strongly advise you to begome Christian lest you solve your mental issues but lose your eternal soul.

I always avoid those drugs because they mess with your brain and mostly works because the person taking them has faith that it will work for them. The funny thing is that regular exercise and a good diet changes your brain chemistry in a way more beneficial way than any pills. If you take them, then for the love of God do not trick yourself that you have to have them to work properly and get rid off them ASAP. I've seen way too many people become like robots after taking them antidepressants for a while.

I’m looking to see if adhd is a valid diagnosis and treating that first. If the depression is secondary it’ll disappear as I get things together with treatment and therapy
