So, i guess this is pretty basic, but what exactly does third plank, on the orthodox mean? Is it symbolic, or does it mean in t he orthodox faith that the romans just had a third plank for jesus? 2nd pic, is what crosses i've seen for most of my life here in america.

Top plank refers to the title above his head

Middle plank is the crossbar for his arms

Bottom plank refers to the two thieves. The one on his right ascends to heaven and the one on his left plunged into hell. Roman crosses also often had a foot plank under your feet, as shown under his feet in this icon. So it’s a double meaning
