The Buddha's philosophy is fine, as far as it goes. It's not really compatible with Christianity because he assumed certain cultural ideas of his time and place to be true (ie, reincarnation).
The trouble is that Buddhism really is his philosophy has been grafted onto a variety of underlying pagan practices. Tibetan Buddhism, for instance, involves a lot of shamanistic practices from their pre-Buddhist religion- Bön. So they have a spiritual offering sessions or meditation involving pagan deities, some of which are literally straight up demons.
