Hello there.

I live in the U.S.A. and am about 27 years of age. I am a believer in the Christian God. I feel that God is telling me to convert to the Greek Orthodox religion.

I am very unknowledgable about it as of yet, but I found a Greek Orthodox Church with a bunch of absolutely beautiful and blessed, loving people.

Any advice for a noon? I will probably convert at another church somewhere else in the country unfortunately.

If there are multiple Orthodox churches around you, give them all a try. You'll see how the Divine Liturgy (the Sunday service) can vary.

What advice are you looking for? You make it sound like you've already gone to a Divine Liturgy there, so I don't know what to tell you. Reading recommendations, perhaps?

I read a lot by this fellow Kallistos Ware.

Are there certain disqualifications that will disqualify me from being part of the Church.

I understand they have a violent history like much of Christendom, particularly in Russia.

First off, you should direct any questions you may have to your priest. You should regularly make an appointment with him so that you can ask him things.

Nothing can disqualify one from converting, although the motto is "come as you are, expect to be changed." If we had to expect perfection from those who wanted to join, the Church would be empty. It is a hospital for spiritual illness after all.

We don't have a history as violent as that of the Latin churches, for the simple reason that the Byzantine empire preferred mutilation+exile over capital punishment, and also we were (and still are) too much under the foot of Islam to be in a powerful enough position to persecute others. The Russian Church was not exactly kind to the Old Believers though, and let's not forget that the Crusades were a collaboration effort (although we massacred Latins a couple of times during that time).

If I know history textbooks my personal opinion is that there was more unknown happenings concerning those matters going on back then than we know of today.

Wow, thank you so much for sharing this with me. God bless you, thank you!
