I have multiple cousins in the military, my father was an officer in the military, so was my grandfather, my great-grandfather and great-great-grandfather, etc.

I recently got placement in the army to be trained as a junior officer (second lieutenant), but I'm not sure if I should do it.

I'm a pacifist and I only believe in self-defense, but would I be fighting in self-defense if I end up getting deployed to a country like Iraq or Afghanistan?

Well I suppose that depends:

1. Are you going to be used as an instrument of evil by evil men?

2. Would you have been willing to sacrifice your life to God as a missionary instead of a soldier?

I don't want to be a hypocrite OP because I am neither a missionary or a soldier, but these are the questions that I asked myself when fantasizing myself as a soldier. I hope they can be of use to you.

Most of the people in the thread assume Israel but it doesn't make a big difference whether it's Israel or not.

As long as you're not massacring people, you're fine.

An army career is one of the most honorable you can have.
