It's that time of the week again. Post your church's readings and homily for today.

Today's readings:

<1 Corinthians 8:8-13; 9:1-2

>But food does not commend us to God; for neither if we eat are we the better, nor if we do not eat are we the worse. But beware lest somehow this liberty of yours become a stumbling block to those who are weak. For if anyone sees you who have knowledge eating in an idol’s temple, will not the conscience of him who is weak be emboldened to eat those things offered to idols? And because of your knowledge shall the weak brother perish, for whom Christ died? But when you thus sin against the brethren, and wound their weak conscience, you sin against Christ. Therefore, if food makes my brother stumble, I will never again eat meat, lest I make my brother stumble. Am I not an apostle? Am I not free? Have I not seen Jesus Christ our Lord? Are you not my work in the Lord? If I am not an apostle to others, yet doubtless I am to you. For you are the seal of my apostleship in the Lord.

<Matthew 25:31-46

>"When the Son of Man comes in His glory, and all the holy angels with Him, then He will sit on the throne of His glory. All the nations will be gathered before Him, and He will separate them one from another, as a shepherd divides his sheep from the goats. And He will set the sheep on His right hand, but the goats on the left. Then the King will say to those on His right hand, ‘Come, you blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world: for I was hungry and you gave Me food; I was thirsty and you gave Me drink; I was a stranger and you took Me in; I was naked and you clothed Me; I was sick and you visited Me; I was in prison and you came to Me.’ Then the righteous will answer Him, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see You hungry and feed You, or thirsty and give You drink? When did we see You a stranger and take You in, or naked and clothe You? Or when did we see You sick, or in prison, and come to You?’ And the King will answer and say to them, ‘Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these My brethren, you did it to Me.’ Then He will also say to those on the left hand, ‘Depart from Me, you cursed, into the everlasting fire prepared for the devil and his angels: for I was hungry and you gave Me no food; I was thirsty and you gave Me no drink; I was a stranger and you did not take Me in, naked and you did not clothe Me, sick and in prison and you did not visit Me.’ Then they also will answer Him, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see You hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison, and did not minister to You?’ Then He will answer them, saying, ‘Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did not do it to one of the least of these, you did not do it to Me.’ And these will go away into everlasting punishment, but the righteous into eternal life.”

Today's homily:

This is a parable, and parables use exagerations and imagery to make a point. To understand the Last Judgment, we must not imagine that the separation between the sheeps and the goat will be inter-human, but rather, it will be intra-human: man will be cut as if with a sword, and that which is not holy will be thrown into the Gehenna to be destroyed. Christ is the greatest of physicians, and will cut off that of us which is diseased so that we may be purified. That is why we must get rid of that which is diseased before this judgment can happen, as Matthew 5:29-30 teaches us to, otherwise we will suffer greatly. This is the view espoused by St Isaac the Syrian and St Gregory of Nyssa, and even St John Chrysostom teaches us that no man may worry anymore, for death has been defeated. Nonetheless, the fire of Gehenna is eternal, for it forever cuts off and burns and destroys that which is unholy and still belongs to us.

But that is not the point we must focus on regarding this parable. What we learn is that what we do for others, we do for Christ. The person next to us truly is a mystery, a sacrament, for through them we encounter Christ and serve Him. We must carry one another's cross, which is also what the epistle reading of today tells us, and we must become akin to Simon of Cyrene who carried Christ's cross. Our salvation is not done alone, our salvation is done by carrying one another's burdens and by serving those around us, especially the poor, the neglected, the oppressed.

Today's reading

<LV 13:1-2, 44-46

>The Lord said to Moses and Aaron, "If someone has on his skin a scab or pustule or blotch which appears to be the sore of leprosy, he shall be brought to Aaron, the priest, or to one of the priests among his descendants. If the man is leprous and unclean, the priest shall declare him unclean by reason of the sore on his head. "The one who bears the sore of leprosy shall keep his garments rent and his head bare, and shall muffle his beard; he shall cry out, 'Unclean, unclean!' As long as the sore is on him he shall declare himself unclean, since he is in fact unclean. He shall dwell apart, making his abode outside the camp."

<PS 32:1-2, 5, 11

>R. (7) I turn to you, Lord, in time of trouble, and you fill me with the joy of salvation.

>Blessed is he whose fault is taken away, whose sin is covered. Blessed the man to whom the LORD imputes not guilt, in whose spirit there is no guile.

>R. I turn to you, Lord, in time of trouble, and you fill me with the joy of salvation.

>Then I acknowledged my sin to you, my guilt I covered not. I said, "I confess my faults to the LORD," and you took away the guilt of my sin.

>R. I turn to you, Lord, in time of trouble, and you fill me with the joy of salvation.

>Be glad in the LORD and rejoice, you just; exult, all you upright of heart.

>R. I turn to you, Lord, in time of trouble, and you fill me with the joy of salvation.

<1 COR 10:31—11:1

Brothers and sisters, Whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do everything for the glory of God. Avoid giving offense, whether to the Jews or Greeks or the church of God, just as I try to please everyone in every way, not seeking my own benefit but that of the many, that they may be saved. Be imitators of me, as I am of Christ.

<LK 7:16

>R. Alleluia, alleluia.

>A great prophet has arisen in our midst, God has visited his people.

>R. Alleluia, alleluia.

<MK 1:40-45

>A leper came to Jesus and kneeling down begged him and said, "If you wish, you can make me clean."

Moved with pity, he stretched out his hand, touched him, and said to him, "I do will it. Be made clean." The leprosy left him immediately, and he was made clean. Then, warning him sternly, he dismissed him at once. He said to him, "See that you tell no one anything, but go, show yourself to the priest and offer for your cleansing what Moses prescribed; that will be proof for them." The man went away and began to publicize the whole matter. He spread the report abroad so that it was impossible for Jesus to enter a town openly. He remained outside in deserted places, and people kept coming to him from everywhere.

Are we supposed to write our own Homilies or try to shorten what we heard?

>OT:

When the Lord was about to take Elijah up to heaven by a whirlwind, Elijah and Elisha were on their way from Gilgal. Elijah said to Elisha, “Stay here; for the Lord has sent me as far as Bethel.” But Elisha said, “As the Lord lives, and as you yourself live, I will not leave you.” So they went down to Bethel. The company of prophets who were in Bethel came out to Elisha, and said to him, “Do you know that today the Lord will take your master away from you?” And he said, “Yes, I know; keep silent.”

Elijah said to him, “Elisha, stay here; for the Lord has sent me to Jericho.” But he said, “As the Lord lives, and as you yourself live, I will not leave you.” So they came to Jericho. The company of prophets who were at Jericho drew near to Elisha, and said to him, “Do you know that today the Lord will take your master away from you?” And he answered, “Yes, I know; be silent.”

Then Elijah said to him, “Stay here; for the Lord has sent me to the Jordan.” But he said, “As the Lord lives, and as you yourself live, I will not leave you.” So the two of them went on. Fifty men of the company of prophets also went, and stood at some distance from them, as they both were standing by the Jordan. Then Elijah took his mantle and rolled it up, and struck the water; the water was parted to the one side and to the other, until the two of them crossed on dry ground.

When they had crossed, Elijah said to Elisha, “Tell me what I may do for you, before I am taken from you.” Elisha said, “Please let me inherit a double share of your spirit.” He responded, “You have asked a hard thing; yet, if you see me as I am being taken from you, it will be granted you; if not, it will not.” As they continued walking and talking, a chariot of fire and horses of fire separated the two of them, and Elijah ascended in a whirlwind into heaven. Elisha kept watching and crying out, “Father, father! The chariots of Israel and its horsemen!” But when he could no longer see him, he grasped his own clothes and tore them in two pieces.

>Ps

1 The Lord, the God of gods, has spoken; *

he has called the earth from the rising of the sun to its setting.

2 Out of Zion, perfect in its beauty, *

God reveals himself in glory.

3 Our God will come and will not keep silence; *

before him there is a consuming flame,

and round about him a raging storm.

4 He calls the heavens and the earth from above *

to witness the judgment of his people.

5 "Gather before me my loyal followers, *

those who have made a covenant with me

and sealed it with sacrifice."

6 Let the heavens declare the rightness of his cause; *

for God himself is judge.

>NT

Even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing. In their case the god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelievers, to keep them from seeing the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God. For we do not proclaim ourselves; we proclaim Jesus Christ as Lord and ourselves as your slaves for Jesus’ sake. For it is the God who said, “Let light shine out of darkness,” who has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.

>G

Jesus took with him Peter and James and John, and led them up a high mountain apart, by themselves. And he was transfigured before them, and his clothes became dazzling white, such as no one on earth could bleach them. And there appeared to them Elijah with Moses, who were talking with Jesus. Then Peter said to Jesus, “Rabbi, it is good for us to be here; let us make three dwellings, one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.” He did not know what to say, for they were terrified. Then a cloud overshadowed them, and from the cloud there came a voice, “This is my Son, the Beloved; listen to him!” Suddenly when they looked around, they saw no one with them any more, but only Jesus.

As they were coming down the mountain, he ordered them to tell no one about what they had seen, until after the Son of Man had risen from the dead.

>Homily

A contrast between the relatively brief moments of direct exposure to God, and the long lives in service of the apostles and prophets. To take the moments of brief spiritual grace we are given, and continue them by doing Christ's will in the world.

Then: We are fundamentally sick. Some are sick on body, some are sick on soul (i.e. sin) but we all as a mankind are sick because of original sin. We are born and we wither away unto death. But Christ is the healer who heals body and soul. And he heals from death too. But as a leper, we have to belive in his healing power.

He sent us his Mother at Lourdes to remind us that he can do it. Everyday people are absolved there by confession healing thier soul and some are healed physicaly in miraculous water.

Some people repent absolutely and change their lives. Christ works out his healing ministry even in this modern era where there is this superstition of some future vademecum that will heal every sickness and illness. But reality is that we are broken and only Christ can heal us by grace.

Lastly, there is so underrated sacrament of anointing of the sick. For so long it was used in extreme unction that it has become synonymous but it's wrong. It is sacrament not only for dying.

Some time ago priest who gave us this homilly visted parish priest in hospital. There he meet his old friend who was really soworfull that she cannot take Eucharist because she literally cannot swallow things. When he proposed to her sacrament of anointing she was really afraid hinking that it means she is going to die. But after long conversation she undersood hat this sacrament was made so she and other sick can recive neccesarry graces. Next day she was anoited and two days later she departed from this word, peacfully. Let us hope that we too will be healed by Christ unto immortality.

My priest gives 25 minute homilies, but I think the jist of it was "Seek out the leprosy in your life, and ask the Lord to cleanse you of them". Something close to that. I take that to mean find the spots of your life where you're failing on a spiritual level, and try to fix the problems, and pray for strength.

Leprosy was a disease where those who were ill were cast out of society. However through Jesus those inflicted with it may be clean. The same is said for our spirits. If we sin and do not seek repentance then we become like a spiritual outcast.

That's what I believe I learned anyways.

>Jesus accepted the peppers and made them clean

>The LGBT community is the modern day leper colony

>We have to accept them

Took a lot of restraint not to rebuke the priest while he preached. The LGBT communities entire focus is the acceptance of unrepentant sin. I didnt know how this man could sleep at night until

>Let us recite what we believe

>Personally omits line on the holy Catholic and apostolic church

I have never internally reeeeeeed so hard in my life. Fucking NYC. Stay away from the St. Malachys. That's what I get for not going to latin mass at Holy Innocents.

Omitting a section of the Credo is a pretty serious liturgical abuse. Somebody should probably report him.
