>Peter's apocalypse describes in detail the tortures which sinners will experience in hell, contrasting these with the glorious life of saints in heaven. The longer Ethiopic version also contains a description of Christ's second coming and the last judgment, as well as a prayer of Jesus indicating that even the souls in hell will eventually be saved by the mercy of God. Although the work was never declared heretical, this doctrine of universal salvation may be a reason why it was rejected from the scriptural canon.

http://www.newworldencyclopedia.org/entry/Apocalypse_of_Peter

>The Apocalypse of Peter (or Revelation of Peter) is an early Christian text of the 2nd century and an example of apocalyptic literature with Hellenistic overtones.

Is the Apocalypse of Peter Scripture, /christian/?

Is the problem of Hell not really a problem at all?

Will all souls eventually be reconciled to Christ, and did the Roman Catholic Church cover this up and try to bury this sacred text?

Please help me, someone more knowledgeable than me…this is making me question my faith and consider believing in universal salvation…

The Bible is very clear that irreversible damnation is a very real thing. There's a reason that book was rejected.

no, there were other reasons and grieve errors iirc., like it is common in apocrypha in general.

>Is the Apocalypse of Peter Scripture, /christian/?

no

>Is the problem of Hell not really a problem at all?

doubt.

Theories about apocatastasis are found in works in saints, including St. Gregory of Nyssa ans St. Isaac the Syrian, but this is merely a theologoumena. And actually, this guy explains it quite well I think pls no bully ;_;

As bishop Kallistos Ware would say "Maybe not everyone would be saved, but we should hope for this" or something with these lines.

Why should I share the Gospel if everyone is going to get saved anyway?

As I said, it is a theologoumena, a personal opinion that may or may not be true found in several works of the saints.

Also, you should, because Jesus said so, that's enough reason as it is.

Thanks for the response and video although it's somewhat strange to see an Orthodox flag anon quoting a Catholic priest, it did help me understand. But, even though I know Jesus commands us to share the Gospel, it's just, with this lingering thought in my head about universal salvation for me all sense of urgency is removed. If I fail to get someone saved it's no big deal…they'll be saved anyway.

well, unfortunately most of the Orthodox channels are in the local language and there arent as much Orthodox anglophones to share or atleast who I know.

But as I said this is a theologoumena. You can hope that it would be true, but you shouldn't count on it or believe it. It's just a theory.

I've read some prophecies regarding the subject of Hell (i.e. Gehenna, etc.), it is a very real place and Jesus make it very clear in the Bible, "narrow is the gate, but wide is the road to perdition." What do you think this means?

Unfortunately, there is such a thing as a "Christian" in Hell and the doctrine of "Once Saved, Always Saved" is a lie (a very laughable one too if you really think about it, but for some reason it's widely peddled around here in America). On top of that, you frequently hear the parable of the 10 virgins, only half of them had their oil in their lamps when the bridegroom arrived. These are parables you seriously need to think about as a true Christian.

I'm probably not directly answering your question, but hopefully by simply reading the Bible you'll find the answers to your questions. These are good questions that you ask and I believe every serious Christian has their "crisis of faith" at least once in their walk with Christ. The important thing is to Seek God (Jehovah, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit). God bless.

This is precisely why lots of ascetic saints recommend you dont put too much heart into it.

It encourages spiritual laziness.

It may be true, or not, so dont put your spiritual foundation into it.

It's clearly not scripture. And it contradicts Mark 9:43-48, Isaiah 66:24, Revelation 14:11 and 20:10.
