Christchan is back up after maintenance! The flood errors should now be resolved. Thank you to everyone who submitted a bug report!

What does /Christian/ think about having insurance?

I understand the concept of having insurance when required by law is fine as this is not grounds for Christian civil disobedience (auto insurance, for example), but what about beyond that?

I own a small business with fairly comprehensive coverage, including some coverage I think we could do without. I heard that the Amish (I think?) dont believe in insurance, trusting entirely in God instead. I fully trust God with my soul and my life's direction, but with littler things like this I don't know what to think.

I'm trying to learn here. Thoughts anyone?

>If someone assaults me then I will do nothing since I trust God will protect me

>I won't drink or eat since God will protect me

Thinking like that is poison for your mind. Use the insurance you think actually benefits you, stay away from insurance you are sure you won't need. I've heard of people who don't take insurance because they thought the risk was so small but then they lost it all in some freak accident. God tells you to be smart not retarded.

Yes I understand free will; I'm guessing the folks I mentioned in the OP believe its superior to trust in God for recovering from whatever bad thing happened versus taking insurance money or something.

IDK, does God work that way?

I know lots of other people view insurance as a matter of good stewardship.

You know, the birds of the air don't sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father still feeds them. Similarly, the lilies of the field don't worry about clothing, the Lord will clothe them.

Don't be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.

Deuteronomy 6:16

>Ye shall not tempt the LORD your God, as ye tempted him in Massah.

Do not invite disaster unto yourself thinking that God will let no harm come upon you. It rains on the just and the unjust.
