Both are good, but if you want a family I'd recommend living in a more rural area. Cities are bad for mental health, and there's no better childhood than one spent out in God's creation and building tree houses.

I've found that I prefer living in small-ish cities (population less than 300,000). I'm currently in a town of 15k and I love it, its almost the best of both world except that sometimes the people living downtown try to act like they live in NYC or something and disgrace themselves.

That said, I think the best way to 'revolt against the modern world' depends less on where you live and more on how you live your life. Help strangers, don't hide your faith (but also don't be Pharisaic in doing so), keep yourself, your wife, your sons and daughters in line and do not be hedonistic as the rest of society wants you to be.

Living well is the best revenge, and you need a healthy stable life to effect any change.
