e71777 No.596249

It appears that someone has started a board for Mormons, similar to our board.

Normally most Mormons live in a very clustered community in Utah and thus are hard to convert.

Perhaps we could use this opportunity to proselytize some misled souls?

I suspect though that it may have been founded by some of the Mormons who we kicked out for trying to proselytize here so it may be tough to get any message across there.

Should probably make a new board for interfaith apologetics, since both boards seem a bit doctrinally territorial.

The board owner at /lds/ is verbally profane; not representative of the Mormons I've known.

At any rate, I've created a separate board for civil, inter-faith debates. I'll set up a Meta/rules sticky and basic board decor tomorrow.

Like a physical copy?

If you go to the mormon.org missionary chat and ask them for one, they will send missionaries your way within a few days. They will give you a free copy and an awkward lesson.

If not, my local used book store usually has a few copies.

You mean Utah? All mormons I know hate Utah mormons.

I'm not a mormon, but the answer is a mix of these things:

1) Moved out west early on (not influenced much by outside cultures)

2)Polygamy to drive up population

3)Strict obedience required to receive ordinances

We're going to have to weed out the misinterpretation of the bible from not only atheists, Gnostics, but now blind Mormons.

It's true scary just how "Christians" can follow a man like Joseph Smith.

If you don't want the missionaries to know where you are from, you could show up to a ward in your area on sunday and ask for one.

Good. They don't belong here.

>Perhaps we could use this opportunity to proselytize some misled souls?

Bad, dumb, and stupid idea. It would be like their coming here to do the same to us "misled souls." Or like going to leftist or atheist boards for the same.

I agree that we should be reaching out to heathens of all stripes, including those who out of honorable or dishonorable intentions, or even out of ignorance call themselves "christians," but invading their communities for that purpose is not only rude, but unlikely to get results.

IMO better to just seize opportunities when they come, or use third-interest boards like /pol/ etc to insert messages, and to have some good apologetic copypasta handy for specific cases.

For example, point out that a faith which changes doctrines with the times cannot be a real, revelatory faith. Mormons used to say that niggers were demons, but coincidentally that changed with the snivel rights movement. Mormons used to allow multiple wives, but coincidentally that changed when Utah became a State. Etc.

a4b59d No.601466

>>596439

Certainly they're descended from among the most gullible white people who ever lived. Anyone who converts in this day and age of the internet is either incredibly stupid or too lazy to do any real research. It takes a special kind of stupid, though, to have been born mormon and, after having critically examined the faith, to choose to stick to it.

My main concern would be for those who were born and raised into it but who have never examined it deeply. IMO those people are very ripe for the truth, if they are seekers.

>>596250

This is probably the best idea WRT reaching those here on the chan.

Back when America actually had a muscular sense of Christianity, they through all the mormons out, and that's why a bunch settled there. Mitt Romney's granddad was born in Mexico, iirc, because of this.

Of course, when we made Utah a State, primarily because California was already one and Utah is kinda on the way there, we had to accept them. But, they did give up on polygamy in order to join the USA. Sort of coincidental that that new "revelation" hit their "church" at such a convenient time …

>do they genuinely believe or are they just in it for the community?

They have what's called a testimony. The testimony is like your plate at a buffet. You fill your plate with the things you like. Some mormons have a strong testimony of Joseph Smith while others think he was flawed and have a testimony of the Holy Spirit and Jesus Christ.

If something bothers them, they put it on "their mental shelf" for later. Meaning, they have a system within their religion that encourages compartmentalization.

Those that can't handle their doubts will usually go inactive or fake it. It's pretty easy to fake it.
