>Of Man's Sinfulness, and God's Grace

<Romans 3:10-11

(10)  As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one:

(11)  There is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God.

<John 3:7-8

(7)  Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again.

(8)  The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth: so is every one that is born of the Spirit.

<Ephesians 1:3-6

(3)  Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ:

(4)  According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love:

(5)  Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will,

(6)  To the praise of the glory of his grace, wherein he hath made us accepted in the beloved.

<1 John 5:1-5

(1)  Whosoever believeth that Jesus is the Christ is born of God: and every one that loveth him that begat loveth him also that is begotten of him.

(2)  By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God, and keep his commandments.

(3)  For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous.

(4)  For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith.

(5)  Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God?

>Of The Church, and Her Ordering

<Hebrews 10:23-25

(23)  Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering; (for he is faithful that promised;)

(24)  And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works:

(25)  Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.

<1 Peter 5:1-3 KJV

(1)  The elders which are among you I exhort, who am also an elder, and a witness of the sufferings of Christ, and also a partaker of the glory that shall be revealed:

(2)  Feed the flock of God which is among you, taking the oversight thereof, not by constraint, but willingly; not for filthy lucre, but of a ready mind;

(3)  Neither as being lords over God's heritage, but being ensamples to the flock.

>Of Baptism for the Remission of Sins

<Acts 8:36-37

(36)  And as they went on their way, they came unto a certain water: and the eunuch said, See, here is water; what doth hinder me to be baptized?

(37)  And Philip said, If thou believest with all thine heart, thou mayest. And he answered and said, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.

<Acts 10:44-48

(44)  While Peter yet spake these words, the Holy Ghost fell on all them which heard the word.

(45)  And they of the circumcision which believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because that on the Gentiles also was poured out the gift of the Holy Ghost.

(46)  For they heard them speak with tongues, and magnify God. Then answered Peter,

(47)  Can any man forbid water, that these should not be baptized, which have received the Holy Ghost as well as we?

(48)  And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord. Then prayed they him to tarry certain days.

<1 Peter 3:21

(21)  The like figure whereunto even baptism doth also now save us (not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God,) by the resurrection of Jesus Christ:

>Of the Lord's Table, and True Spiritual Eating

<John 6:35, 63

(35)  And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst…

(63)  It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life.

<1 Corinthians 10:16-17

(16)  The cup of blessing which we bless, is it not the communion of the blood of Christ? The bread which we break, is it not the communion of the body of Christ?

(17)  For we being many are one bread, and one body: for we are all partakers of that one bread.

While I am not wholly Calvinist, I can imagine myself being 95% of it. If you believe that God is all-knowing and all-powerful (of which the Bible clearly states), then you must also conclude that he knows the future and the past even before time was created by him. You then accept that he knew his creation would sin against him before he even created it. He knew Adam would sin against him before Adam ate the fruit.

When we come to these conclusions, we begin to understand that God created humanity in such a way that he knew exactly who would go to hell and who would go to heaven, even before they were born. This is predestination. Calvinism as such doesn't become a 'belief' insomuch as it becomes fact. Those who accept it have to accept the absolute sovereignty of God.

e96802 No.593868

That's predestination by foreknowledge, which is a belief shared by Arminians (at least the well-educated), but especially emphasized by Reformed Arminianism.

– In reformed theology Arminianism and Calvinism are basically two sides of the same coin.

The reason I was mostly Calvinist as a Protestant was that I could not accept the modern evangelical idea of "salvation occurs on a profession of faith", and Calvinism was the simplest way to refute that.

>Calvinism as such doesn't become a 'belief' insomuch as it becomes fact.

Calvinism isn't only belief in predestination, it also includes doctrines like unconditional election (see Acts 16:31), limited atonement (see 1 John 2:2, 1 Timothy 4:10, and total depravity/irresistable grace (see John 5:40).
