>daily prayer turns to weekly

>weekly turns to monthly

>haven't gone to church in couple months

>faith and motivation get sloppy

>suddenly little problems cause stress

>get irritated easier, get moodier at work

>start being more materialistic, scheming how to make more money although my finances are fine

wow what a difference a couple months of forgoing my spiritual practice makes

its a slippery slope if you disregard your development

Serious notes can someone give me the cliff notes on christianity? Like in a paragraph or less? I'm an agnostic looking to convert

So far I've got: Jesus died so god could forgive us for our sins. To avoid sin we must be nice and caring and not fornicate the ladies

>"..mortal sin bears in a way an infinite malice and that nothing short of a person possessing infinite worth is capable of making full amends for it…"

>"…For an adequate satisfaction", says St. Thomas, "it is necessary that the act of him who satisfies should possess an infinite value and proceed from one who is both God and Man"

>In the Old Testament sin is set forth as an act of disobedience (Genesis 2:16-17; 3:11; Isaiah 1:2-4; Jeremiah 2:32); as an insult to God (Numbers 27:14); as something detested and punished by God (Genesis 3:14-19; Genesis 4:9-16); as injurious to the sinner (Tobit 12:10); to be expiated by penance (Psalm 51:19).

>In the New Testament it is clearly taught in St. Paul that sin is a transgression of the law (Romans 2:23; 5:12-20); a servitude from which we are liberated by grace (Romans 6:16-18); a disobedience (Hebrews 2:2) punished by God (Hebrews 10:26-31). St. John describes sin as an offence to God, a disorder of the will (John 12:43), an iniquity (1 John 3:4-10).

As for OP's question. I'm almost the opposite. I pray every day, want to start saying regular rosaries, and am very (very) loosely considering monastic life. It was like a switch flipped one day and I stopped being an average degenerate chan user. Someone must have prayed for me. Pray for your faith to increase daily.

>daily prayer turns weekly

then you must be doing something wrong. I cannot rest if I don't pray a little. Of course some days are more spiritual than others.

Prayer is the breath of the soul. After a while it's something natural and needed. I could spend more time praying and less time posting dank memes I suppose.

Sometimes when I pray I feel as if I'm just using the same words over and over again, which I am most of the times. The fact that I do this, I believe or at least think that God is "sick" of hearing me say the same words again and again. Has this ever happened to you?

9c280c No.588977

>>588958

No.

I think he likes our faith regardless of the words. Also you don't need to be original with each prayer because God knows your intentions better than you.

Thanks to your thread I found this interesting point of view from the orthodox.

We believe in one God, the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and of all things visible and invisible;

And in one Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of God, the Only-begotten, Begotten of the Father before all ages, Light of Light, Very God of Very God, Begotten, not made; of one essence with the Father, by whom all things were made: Who for us men and for our salvation came down from heaven, and was incarnate of the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary, and was made man; and was crucified also for us under Pontius Pilate, and suffered and was buried; and the third day He rose again, according to the Scriptures; and ascended into heaven, and sits at the right hand of the Father; and He shall come again with glory to judge the living and the dead, Whose kingdom shall have no end.

And we believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, and Giver of Life, Who proceeds from the Father, Who with the Father and the Son together is worshipped and glorified, Who spoke by the Prophets;

And we believe in one, holy, catholic, and apostolic Church. We acknowledge one Baptism for the remission of sins. We look for the Resurrection of the dead, and the Life of the age to come.

You forgot the "and the son" part, why is that?

1a8443 No.588983

Not all Nicene Christians agree that the Spirit proceeds from the Son, but all Nicene Christians agree that the Spirit proceeds from the Father.

Do you get triggered whenever you see it being said that the Spirit proceeds from the Father without "and the Son" next to it? Please don't look at the documents of the First Council of Constantinople or you may very well become a heretic. I've never heard of Catholics or Protestants specifically rejecting that the Holy Spirit proceeds from the Father…

>>588983

Note that I don't mean "triggered" in an offensive way - English isn't my first language and I don't know what other term I could use.

>I've never heard of Catholics or Protestants specifically rejecting that the Holy Spirit proceeds from the Father…

That's because it would be a rejection of our own pneumatology (you don't get "and the Son" without "from the Father").

1a8443 No.588988

>>588987

The fathers of the 2nd ecumenical council didn't have a problem saying, in either Greek or Latin, that the Holy Spirit proceeds "from the Father." Clearly it is at least possible to say the Spirit proceeds from the Father without the further precision that He proceeds from the Son.

You don't get "and the Son" without "from the Father," but you can get "from the Father" without "and the Son." That's why I put the creed in its original form, since technically everyone here agrees to it.

Not really

John 15:26

<But when the Counselor comes, whom I shall send to you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, who proceeds from the Father, he will bear witness to me;

Even if the Spirit does proceed from the Father and the Son, it is not wrong to have written a Creed that does not contain the word "filioque" – it more closely matches the wording Christ Himself used.

But let's not make this a filioque debate thread.

>>588792

Absolutely.

>The sluggard is wiser in his own eyes than seven men who can answer sensibly. (Prov. 26:16)

When I fail to read Scripture, pray, or even give God a passing thought, I elevate myself to the a level of great pride. When this happens, I think I know what is best for myself, rather than being obedient to the God who knows all.

If you are stuck in this cycle of sloth, I suggest that you take a break from this imageboard and read some Scripture.

I will do so as well.
