hey guys don't usually post here, often mostly lurk, but i wanted to get your guys opinion, on this book, i''ve been struggling with god on this seesawing mentality some days it feels like i know him, and other days im doubting wondering if im just wasting my time. But now i got this book pic related which a lot of ppl say is good for if you're the kind of person that goes where are the facts, i want the facts.

Gotta say the intro story i got on the kindle trial really got me into this, something that i could logically wrap my head around, so i purchased a copy, and happily await it's arrival, but i wanted to know your guys opinion, and if anyone else here has struggled with god on this sorta seesaw situation in prior years, or possibly at this very moment like i am.

Man, I always struggle. Especially since certain things happened in my life which make it really, really hard for me to believe in anything. To be perfectly honest with you, I'm just a Christian in name. Anyway, everyone struggles, that's normal. I have never heard of this book, but when I was interested in logical argumentation I read some of Aquinas' works.

Also, to again be perfectly honest, if you will seek logic in absolutely everything regarding faith, you're gonna stumble on many things, especially with the Old testament. At some point, you will just need to suspend your disbelief.

I would recommend reading the kindle trial version, it really connected with me, as of how many ppl think today, or thoughts ppl have. But i mean there's logic to it, more logic than non believers would like to admit which, i think falls into the pride issue. But have faith.

If you look at your claim from another perspective, you're claiming that the brightest minds of the last two millennia have almost all decided to believe a lie because it's convenient and then decided to build upon that even though they knew what it really was. This is beyond retarded.

You can say that about every old religion basically, hinduism is how many thousands of years old? What I wanted to say is if you keep on asking why this, why that, you're not going to find a straight answer.

>>588513

I'm really tired of the whole thing, I think that deep down I simply don't care. I was never spiritual, I think Christ existed, I think Christ is the Son of God, I just can't bring myself to care.

Never have read this book so I would be interested in someone's opinion if it's good as well.

People here usually recommend Mere Christianity by C.S. Lewis for starters, if you get the chance to read it later you definitely should.

>hinduism

Hinduism invites disaster and that's just what India is and has always been; not a lot of smart people in there

>if you keep on asking why this, why that, you're not going to find a straight answer

Do you understand that God is infinite?

Nothing to do with being smart, they've believed it for a long time.

>Do you understand that God is infinite?

Do you understand that does not explain why the Jews weren't allowed to eat seafood? Or the cruelty of it? Or the genocides committed? And so on and so on.

>Do you understand that does not explain why the Jews weren't allowed to eat seafood?

Yes I do, but not every part of God's will can be explained; were this not the case, you would be able to comprehend the infinite, and that's not possible.

>Or the cruelty of it?

<dietary laws are cruel

Oh the humanity

>Or the genocides committed?

By Jews on seafood deprivation? What are you even going on about?

I really liked it, personally. It's not the greatest book on the planet, but I thought it was a great introduction to Christian apologetics.

>>588522

Read Paul Copan's "Is God a Moral Monster?" for the questions of morality in the OT.

Also, while some of the ceremonial law doesn't make much sense to modern people, the whole seafood thing is a terrible example. Bad or ill-prepared shellfish can make you terribly sick, it makes sense why Israelites would consider them unclean.

I watched some of his videos back when I was a "skeptic". He doesn't strike me as particularly intelligent. Just another athiest who converted to become an evangelical and make a fortune selling books on apologetics. There is better stuff out there. If you're going with Protestant apologetics I'd start with Mere Christianity and then everything else C.S. Lewis wrote.

great book about the evidence of Jesus Christ, I read it when I was converting.

as for your seesawing, stop letting your emotions rule over you. Is this fact true or not? If it's not that don't believe it, if it is then believe it. as Catholics we are called to live by the reign of reason over our disordered passions.

>Also, to again be perfectly honest, if you will seek logic in absolutely everything regarding faith, you're gonna stumble on many things, especially with the Old testament. At some point, you will just need to suspend your disbelief.

not true

>>588516

I weep for you. St. Maximilian Kolbe said indifference is the greatest sin of the 20th century. Please take my advice I gave to the other person and stop letting your feelings rule you. why does it matter if you care or not, just do it. so what if you don't have tingly feelings? just set your will on God's and do it. That's what all the saints did. your soul should rule over your body, not your body over your soul.
