Is eating a ton of food to get bigger sinful? I eat quite bit of food but haven't gained any weight in months.

d357e5 No.584695

>>584692

Is this when we start Frank Yang posting?

5c382b No.584697

The whole point of gluttony is not breaking 1 corinthians 6:12-13

>All things are lawful unto me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but I will not be brought under the power of any.

>Meats for the belly, and the belly for meats: but God shall destroy both it and them. Now the body is not for fornication, but for the Lord; and the Lord for the body.

matthew 6:33

>But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.

So yes you can eat more, just don't be addicted and seek God first and foremost.

f9181a No.584714

>>584692

>eat more to bulk so you can lift more

>lift more so you can glorify your body and temple for the Lord

>glorify your body and temple so to inspire and evangelize those who do not know Christ

it's fine.

08a869 No.584715

Are you getting bigger in order to better serve God, or are you doing it to get "joocey" out of vanity?

5c382b No.584716

>caring about the carnal body inspite of romans 8:7-8

5c382b No.584720

3353ec No.584722

>>584715

Probably both. I really enjoy being able to lift more each week. Lifting is basically the only thing I'm good at. I don't show off my body by wearing tank tops and overly tight clothing.

5c382b No.584723

>>584722

<Probably both

matthew 6:24

>No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.

3353ec No.584726

>>584723

I'm not trying to be vain on purpose, though I wonder if I am subconsciously.

0f16d5 No.584739

How is one supposed to attract a wife without getting "joocey?"

1 corinthians 7:6-8

>But I speak this by permission, and not of commandment.

>For I would that all men were even as I myself. But every man hath his proper gift of God, one after this manner, and another after that.

>I say therefore to the unmarried and widows, It is good for them if they abide even as I.

7d0268 No.584743

Having a strong body naturally makes people see you as a leader. That is, if you're already charismatic you'll make yourself even more charismatic if you take up half of every room you visit.

0f16d5 No.584746

>>584740

Forcing celibacy is gnostic, to say the least.

Most people can't handle celibacy. In fact, if you feel sexual urges at all, it's probably a bad idea.

1 corinthians 7:9

>But if they cannot contain, let them marry: for it is better to marry than to burn.

Once more

>caring about feelings of the carnal body inspite of 1 corinthians 2:14

0f16d5 No.584751

>>584748

Exactly. But you need to be fit to attract a mate.

5c382b No.584755

>>584751

Why do you care so much about attracting a mate? Serve God.

0f16d5 No.584757

>>584755

Because I, like most people, am not cut out for the celibate life. There's nothing sinful about marriage.

>is getting big and strong a sin?

only according to feminists and satan himself,

fat-gluttony comes from sloth and not caring about your body, eating to get big is hard work and for a good cause.

Can we add "as long as it's not out of vanity" as a footnote? I used to be kinda big when I was in my 20s, now I want to regain a bit of all that, but not to show off, only to do my job better (I move furniture all day long) and to get a bit of a testosterone boost to find myself a woman in the future.

59d819 No.584781

sure

but you can still want to look beautiful/handsome and not be vain about it

ecclesasties 9:9-11

>Live joyfully with the wife whom thou lovest all the days of the life of thy vanity, which he hath given thee under the sun, all the days of thy vanity: for that is thy portion in this life, and in thy labour which thou takest under the sun.

>Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy might; for there is no work, nor device, nor knowledge, nor wisdom, in the grave, whither thou goest.

>¶ I returned, and saw under the sun, that the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, neither yet bread to the wise, nor yet riches to men of understanding, nor yet favour to men of skill; but time and chance happeneth to them all.

There is no such thing as (((coincidence))), but time and chance happeneth to them all.

You may be venially sinning but then it is always unavoidable for us. I would argue that to be perfect you would engage in a productive work (like carpentry) where cultivating and honing your body is a by product and not vanity and you eat just enough (which is a lot) to keep you in perfect health.

4cbf8c No.584876

>>584692

Your body is a temple of God. I don't see how keeping it in good shape is sinful.

Here is an article about vanity:

https://www.catholicculture.org/culture/library/dictionary/index.cfm?id=37036

From what you poated here, it doesn't seem that you are vain.

bccf97 No.584898

>>584692

Gluttony is when you're eating yourself to death, mutilate your body with overeating or just eat a lot while there ate still other people around you that want something (like a family dinner).

If you lift, then you need to get big, therefore you have to eat big.

If you use all the food and don't mutilate your body or health then it's fine, just look out for vanity as >>584880 pointed out.

3353ec No.584899

Is it vanity to want to bench 400 lbs?

445345 No.584902

>>584899

Usually not.

cd4f12 No.584930

>>584716

Forcing yourself to go to the gym can be penitential. It is a form of fasting, that is aligning your body and what you want to do with your will and what you ought to do.

The act of working out can help fight sloth, and maintaining control of your diet so as to not lose progress in working out can help fight gluttony. It does this in the same way that abstinence fights lust.

The spiritual benefits of working out can be doubled if one primarily does it as a penitential act like fasting. If done as almost a sort of prayer, God can give graces to help one not fall into vanity and self-depreciation that many succumb to after working out for so long.

I lifted for 2 years, got 1/2/3/4 for reps already and a good body before findding Christ. Read up on Muscular Christianity, need to have endurance and strenght for any occasion to fight evil, or to spend multiple days spreading the gospel. If I feel God is calling me to be a Missionary(I'm in electrical engineering so feel I could use it), I will be the first to dig ditches, build houses and pastor in whatever land there is.
