Why's the bible so hard to read?

I read it but can't comprehend anything

Go to your church's bible study. It helps a lot when you can discuss it with others.

What version are you using? If you're utilizing something like the KJV, avoid it. That was written by Anglicans for Anglicans in the 16th century.

I'd definitely suggest the RSVCE or the The Catholic Youth Bible. The former has more understandable language and the latter has a lot of good side notes and history on each page that helps you grasp the understanding of each passage and gives the cultural or general history behind it.

God bless!

Sunday School is for children. Wednesday night bible study is for adults. I can't help you with the socialization, but if you're not sharing fellowship with your fellow Christians, then you're missing out on a huge chunk of what it means to be a Christian.

Matthew 18:20 says "Where two or three are gathered in my name …"

Genesis 2:18 says "It is not good for the man to be alone …"

Even cloistered monks share brotherhood. Get yourself to church, man.

>I don't like socializing

Force yourself to put up with it. The Church is a family.

I'm convinced that every time I see an OP with the corrupted pepe, its always some "what does x thing about y" or "redpill me on x" on this board, and I'm sick of it.

Look up the bible project:read scripture on YouTube. Every time I finish a book, I watch a short summary on it by the bible project to see if I missed any themes.

Which part are you reading?

If you skipped to Hebrews or Romans, of course there's gonna be some misunderstandings.

Examples? Not necessarily to delve off into explaining what a particularity verse may mean but what rather to better analyze the nature of the trouble.

Get saved first

18 For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God.

You have to have eyes to see and ears to hear. Because if you did then by reading the Bible God would do 1 corinthians 2:13-15 to you.

Read the new testament first, then read the old.

It's like star wars, the later episodes are the meat of it and the prequels are just so you know how it got to that point.

Eh, that's when a lot of churches have their evening Bible study. It really could be any day, I suppose. Just have to check with your church.

The Common English Bible is the easiest bible to read that is not explicitly meant for children. It's a fourth-grade reading level and includes the Catholic deuterocanonical books. If you are an adult convert who has never read the bible at all before and are unfamiliar with the stories, I think there's nothing wrong with reading a children's bible as your first bible either though. They're comfy and have cute pictures.

You could also listen to a more challenging translation of the bible on audio. I have this one http://truthandlifebible.com/ and I really like it. It's fully dramatized with acting and sound effects and stuff, it's the RSV-CE version. It's only the new testament though, I hope they do the old testament some day. (I don't know of any explicitly Catholic dramatized audio bibles of the old testament.)

Try RSV or NRSV. They're easy to read. Start with key parts of the New Testament. You could also try ESV but I find the language in the other 2 more beautiful. KJV only is inadvisible.

Why do you people enjoy this? All of those versions use the critical text. Which in Luke 2:33 says that Joseph is Jesus' father, which removes Matthew 18:11 and skips to the next verse, removes "through Christ" in Galatians 4:7, removes "through his blood" in Colossians 1:14, removing "of our Lord Jesus Christ" in Ephesians 3:14, and removing "Christ is come in the flesh" in 1 John 4:3.

It also alters what Jesus Christ himself said by removing "without a cause" in Matthew 5:22, removing "that believe in me" in Mark 9:42, removing "for them that trust in riches" in Mark 10:24, removing "but by every word of God" in Luke 4:4, removing "on me" in John 6:47, removing "because I go to the Father" in John 16:16, and removing "I am Alpha and Omega, the first and the last:" in Revelation 1:11.

Mark 1

2 As it is written in the prophet Isaiah,[c]

“See, I am sending my messenger ahead of you,[d]

who will prepare your way;

That's actually a qoute of Malachi not Isaiah

3 See, I am sending my messenger to prepare the way before me, and the Lord whom you seek will suddenly come to his temple. The messenger of the covenant in whom you delight—indeed, he is coming, says the Lord of hosts.

it needs to be savored

try reading even a verse a day, or read until you get confused, then seek an answer

once you're satisfied, you can start reading again

>mods haven't read the Bible

He's referencing the passage about an Apostle who helps an Ethiopian interpret the Bible.

Probably another Baptist mod who doesn't want to read about how his interpretation is a man made religion so he ignores Bible verses about the necessity of the Church.

All that is worth doing in His name, alas, is difficult in this world. And yet, our burden is lighter compared to the one on the shoulders of those who never met him or refuse to come into His light.

I recall a "Bible reading plan" made by a guy here, can someone post it here? Op could use it…
