I am currently reading 1 samuel, and I came across this:

It repenteth me that I have set up Saul to be king: for he is turned back from following me, and hath not performed my commandments. And it grieved Samuel; and he cried unto the Lord all night.

1 samuel 15:11

What does it mean for our God to repent? If he is outside of time, he knew what Saul was going to do anyways. Or was he being unusually humble, or lying?

God regrets putting Saul in charge. I don't see the problem.

So if he regrets something he did, is he still perfect?

To change His mind also see jonah 3:9-10

>Who can tell if God will turn and repent, and turn away from his fierce anger, that we perish not?

>¶ And God saw their works, that they turned from their evil way; and God repented of the evil, that he had said that he would do unto them; and he did it not.

Yes, God can change His mind as He is in authority to do such things.

I think it comes down to some aspects of God being beyond our understanding and probably even being beyond what human language can express. Like an ant trying to understand the ins and outs of human technology.

I once made the claim on here that God can change his mind(referring to when moses pleaded with him to not smite the isrealites), and was rebuked.

Lol, now that specific case is very interesting. You see Moses technically didn't change God's mind, as God still smote the isrealites later using Moses in Exodus 32:19-29

>And it came to pass, as soon as he came nigh unto the camp, that he saw the calf, and the dancing: and Moses’ anger waxed hot, and he cast the tables out of his hands, and brake them beneath the mount.

>And he took the calf which they had made, and burnt it in the fire, and ground it to powder, and strawed it upon the water, and made the children of Israel drink of it.

>And Moses said unto Aaron, What did this people unto thee, that thou hast brought so great a sin upon them?

>And Aaron said, Let not the anger of my lord wax hot:thou knowest the people, that they are set on mischief.

>For they said unto me, Make us gods, which shall go beforeus: for as for this Moses, the man that brought us up out of the land of Egypt, we wot not what is become of him.

>And I said unto them, Whosoever hath any gold, let them break it off. So they gave it me: then I cast it into the fire, and there came out this calf.

LOL seriously? A calf doesn't just appear out of the fire.

>¶ And when Moses saw that the people were naked; (for Aaron had made them naked unto their shame among their enemies:)

>Then Moses stood in the gate of the camp, and said, Who is onthe LORD’s side? let him come unto me. And all the sons of Levi gathered themselves together unto him.

>And he said unto them, Thus saith the LORD God of Israel,Put every man his sword by his side, and go in and out from gate togate throughout the camp, and slay every man his brother, and every man his companion, and every man his neighbour.

>And the children of Levi did according to the word of Moses:and there fell of the people that day about three thousand men.

>For Moses had said, Consecrate yourselves to day to theLORD, even every man upon his son, and upon his brother; that he may bestow upon you a blessing this day.

>What does it mean for our God to repent?

All that the base word repent means is to change what you were going to do, change course, and turn away from what you were going to do. This could be for any number of reasons; for God, such as the fact that the people changed their ways caused God to withhold what He would have done and was ready to do, for us, it could be abandoning your attempt to make your own self righteous by your works.

Just to remind you that our terms never describe matters of God perfectly and this text was aimed so that even dumdums would get it. It doesnt mean that he repented or somewhat changed, but rather what would fallen human relate it to closest.
