Just kidding though. You couldn't SUDDENLY start fasting for 40 days to a end, specially if you're not chaste enough or if you just converted and never fasted before in your life.

Yeah Orthos and Eastern Catholics have another 40-day period of fasting in Advent.

I think this used to be the case in the West too, but like so much else it has fallen away. We don't even seem to celebrate Ember Days any more.

I converted last Pascha and observed the 40 day strict fast. It was tough but so worth it. I've never felt closer to God as during those times of prayer and fasting.

I think it's a rare practice even among the Orthodox, only a few of them do it. We had a Romanian here a few weeks ago talking about that.

Christmas is a Pagan custom and it has nothing to do with Christ of Christianity or the Bible the calendar that we are using is the Gregorian calendar and it is not the biblical calendar

He sort of did, 2/3rds of the Christians church leaders at that time thought that Jesus wasn't God (it's more complicated than that, but I'm summarizing) but Saint Nicholas helped convince them otherwise

Man no one worships Santa or St Nicholas. Get real.

Because it is possible, in fact it's incredibly easy to worship our Lord and not get caught up in the commercialism. It is possible to go to mass on the day of the Nativity of our Lord and commemorate and consider His Incarnation. Someone with a sincere and actual faith can look past this rubbish for what it is and go straigth to Christ.

It's like saying you will no longer celebrate Easter because of "muh easter bunnies".
