I know Plato, Aristotle, and Plotinus all came to conclusions that were very similar to Christianity. I also know that many early Christians were ex-stoics who found similarity between their new faith and their old philosophy. Can anyone give a guide to pre-Christian especially Greek and Roman philosophy that came close to embracing Christ? Don't just say "the Greeks"

Tao Te Ching is by far the closest thing that come to Christianity as far as I am concerned.

Nope, I never posted about that before. But thats my personal opinion and to be honest, I haven't read lots of Greek philosophers myself, but from what I've read, I consider it to be closest thing to Christianity. Its postulates are quite close to Christian virtues, though there are also several large differences too, such as the theories about passivity or non resistance. While Dao De Jing says that one should obey the nature and its laws, Christianity says to oppose worldly temptations. But that verse from Dao De Jing also depends on interpretation as well. Any who, thats my opinion for now. And its not too long to read either, though you should have some basic understanding of Chinese world view to understand certain parts of it.

P.S. unrelated, but "Word" in John 1 is translated in Chinese as "Dao" in the Bibles.

Huh. There are at least two Orthodox Tao-posters on this board. I can't find the thread now with the other guy

I've been thinking of reading the Tao Te Ching/Dao De Jing, I probably will now

What are your guys thoughts on Philo? I think he had some good points, but it also seems like he had quite an influence on Gnosticism.

Have you ever read Christ the Eternal Tao? It's really fascinating.
