>In a 2008 interview with Amy Goodman on Democracy Now!, he described himself as a "communist in a qualified sense," and in another appearance in October 2009 he described himself as a "radical leftist."[31][32] The following year Žižek appeared in the Arte documentary Marx Reloaded in which he defended the idea of communism.

Oh.

A Yugoslavian totally-not-jewish-guys athiest that teaches at jewyork jewniversity. He has a cult following on the youtubes and has written several books that basically boil down to "dude lmao, without religion we'd be living in a communist utopia by now."

I believe he's been on that "bigidea" channel or whatever it's called.

Prove his presuppositions are incorrect, then demonstrate why Christianity's is refined and Boom! Zizek is a Christian.

>Prove his presuppositions are incorrect

You see, here is where Zizek would *sniff* disagree with *sniff* the presumptions you use to disprove his presumptions.

Not really tough. He's into dialectics and the like, if I remember. I'm not sure if logical argument works on that.

John Milbank tried. Zizek is a Hegelian and a Lacanian. He's literally a closeted Catholic.

what… how?

Hegel God is immanent and that just right from the start, gets you as far as you can get from catholic doctrine

"convert someone, who devoted his life to postmodernist sophistry and the subjectivity of truth and regards god as a dead metanarrative"

good luck with that

7b8b61 No.576598

Hegel is heterodox Christianity but Lacanians are all ex-Catholics who wallow in self-pity and a secularised form of confession. For Lacanians, Catholicism would solve everything except that they've convinced themselves from the outset that it can't be true.

7b8b61 No.576599

Except that he's Hegelian and Marxist, which isn't post-modern, and it's a lot more theist than Heidegger and Derrida and Foucault. For Zizek, God is temporally dead and will be resurrected in the communist state. Zizek and all orthodox Marxists are still profoundly in the "meta narratives are real" phase, they just think something like atheist Christianity is the end-goal of history.

He has defended Christianity, at least aspects of it, and claims to a "Christian Atheist". He's certainly not Jewish.

Also,

>Marxism is materialist

>Engels coined "dialectical materialism"

>Marx shoehorned Hegelian dialectics into materialism

>Hegel was literally a German idealist

>Marx used his powers of Talmudic word-bodge to meld idealist philosophy to materialist social theory

I agree it was a sloppy classification, but the gist of what I was saying was that it is impossible to return to a pure practice from the perspective of philosophical parochialism. God doesn't need our theorising.

Lacan is a structuralist and you're well aware of his influence on late 20th century ideas, Zizek is as asthenic as any other theorist in that regard.

he's already there, just all the info on him is either people jumping to conclusions/misunderstanding concepts he talks about that are way above them or him trolling (I am a 'Christian atheist' because of big other symbolism in new testament etc)

He's very strange. It may not look like it, but one of his hopes is a worldwide Reign of Terror.

In regards to Christianity, he's written a book with an Anglican priest:

https://www.amazon.com/Monstrosity-Christ-Paradox-Dialectic-Circuits/dp/0262516209

His other book, The Puppet and the Dwarf, argues that Christianity was the first "revolution". By revolution, he means it in the same sense as Communist revolution.
