Quite true. People are addicted to the drama and behave and expect lots of things to unfold like the dramas they have seen. Evidently seen in the cliché seen in the film being acted out in real life.
Lords have mercy for us. People still have not lost common sense completely and when things turns out differently than in the drama, those drama addicts are pretty much at a loss and melted down.

On the topic. People are satisfied with completing revenge, contrary to what the media keeps telling people. More precisely, it is in our basic psychology to see justice served. We rejoice when God punishes the unjust.
However, like how the enemy twisted sex which is to be happily consummated by husband and wife only into a travesty that is known as porn. They twisted the nature of our heart seeing Gods justice be done into what I would call a Revenge Porn. The "Revenge feels empty" is just a "moral obligation" to tell people to not be held responsible. Like how cigarettes companies know smokes kills, keep telling people that it kills but ultimately give nary-a-care for lung cancer victims.
