So I want to start to visit all the orthodox churches near me. However, there is about 40 different ones and I'm not sure by what standards I should choose. There are greek, antiochian, russian, assyrian, OCA etc. Churches and I'm not sure of their difference except for the language of the liturgies. Anyone who went through this process can help me? What should I look for in the church? I don't want to base my choice stictly on aesthetics. For exemple I went to an antiochian church and it was extremely beautiful. The chants were sublime and I truly loved it, but they spoke syriac the whole time. Only a little part of the homily was in my language. The church was all full and people were very kind anyway. But I have a hard time imagining going to a church every sunday where I am the only one of my nationality and listening to foreign language. But should that be a stumbling block?

Please ahare personal experience on the matter

Different jurisdictions have different traditions, but at the same time, each parish has its own little tradition also. Not two Divine Liturgies are the same, in fact.

Just go to all the churches that are within reasonable reach and pick the one that resonates the most with you. Each community will be distinct and different, you may want to try them all.

For notice: make sure you don't go to a schismatic church (ie Oriental Orthodox, Genuine Orthodox…)
