How come is it that Buddha meditated under a tree, but Buddhists meditate unto idols? Meditation helps get rid of temptation, but the extended meditation becomes a form of idolatry of self by which the serpent attacks from the remnants of the forbidden fruit within the mind of man. Indeed, had Adam and Eve meditated on God's word underneath the tree of life, they would have defeated the temptations of Satan, just as Buddha defeated the demon "Mara". The main temptation of the Buddhist doctrine is the temptation of self-annihilation/extinguishment of self to end the suffering of self to bring about a consciousness of prebirth-like enlightenment, but fulfillment is the true main goal that Jesus Christ sought. In being born(Mary went through suffering, but found fulfillment in Jesus Christ's birth), his goal was to not only end suffering, but to fulfill the gospel as God, the messiah and as the living embodiment of the logos so that the true desires(treasures in heaven, peace within, and eternal life) of the human spirit become self-evident in him and his word so that the spirit will bear much fruit. Buddhists aims to self-prune the spirit so that it withers away in asceticism and deceiving the self, while Christian aims to follow Jesus to have him prune our spirit so that the spirit bears fruit.
