I'm still in my early twenties and interested in becoming a bachelor in christian theology.

But I don't know what I can do with it. The only thing I can do is to become a teacher?

It seems a good idea. It would be a fun work for sure.

I would love it if you can defend your claims against Uncle Jimmy on the topic of monasticism. Vid related.

Well you could join a seminary and become a diocesan priest or join a religious order. In either case you could pursue your scholarly interests and write books/publish papers–though some orders don't allow that i believe and a priest is pretty busy. You could also take the secular route and write books/publish papers in that setting. This latter option would probably require a master's or doctorate and you would be working out of a University most likely, so there would be some teaching. Tenured professors though can often spend the majority of their time in research.

Thank you, anon.

You could always become a priest and then a professor at a seminary.

There's also the lay route of doing a BA in theology and then trying to find work in your diocese. I know a guy got a master's in theology and now he works under a bishop. These jobs can be hard to find, though.

God bless, anon.

Can't I be a professor at a seminary if I don't become a priest?

I just had a d'oh moment, yeah you probably can. I mean heck, if you get a doctorate degree in theology, then you'll be competitive to get a job at any university/college as a theology professor.

I can't even begin to imagine how awful theology departments at universities are these days.

I've seen someone here telling that theology degrees at Uni are religious studies for atheist…

I am thinking of studying Theology in my home country. Becoming either Pastor or Professor are the only job opportunities though.

Go for it.
