For years, religion has been likened to the opioid of the masses, granting a sense of comfort and cosmic relevance. How would you maintain faith when confronted with cosmic beings farther along than humanity? Beings that treat humanity as humanity treats ants?

By being eaten first. Duh.

I don't fear demons

97af19 No.564650

lovecraft would be embarrassed to see the nerds of today turning his stuff into an autistic larp religion

5259d8 No.564652

>>564650

Not really. Lovecraft not only welcomed, but encouraged fan-fiction.

7376a0 No.564654

>>564650

That isn't my intention. It's a genuine question. It doesn't need to be lovecraftian in nature, but simply alien and beyond.

7376a0 No.564657

>>564649

Why do you consider them demons?

NERD

b1ae08 No.564664

God is infinitely greater and stronger than even the mind-shatteringly powerful beings Lovecraft could dream up. If such beings actually exist, which they don't, it wouldn't have an effect on religion save spawn a few cults.

Fun fact: Derleth was a devout Christian.

>implying Eldritch horrors are older cosmically and are superior to Christ Jesus.

My sides have transcended

7376a0 No.564673

>>564669

I did not mean that, I simply meant that after the discovery of such alien creatures, where would that put religion? Why would God create them, if he did at all?

It's purely hypothetical.

7376a0 No.564676

>>564664

I did not know that Derleth was a christian. That's why cosmic horror is unsettling. In that universe, God is not what people think he is. He is uncaring, barely existent, and for the most part, not there.

fe248c No.564680

It would shake some the faith of some for sure, but they were probably of weak faith to begin with. For most believers I would assume it would only strengthen their faith. Atheists would be in serious trouble. However, this type of question is already similar to "What would happen if an advanced alien race showed up?"

7376a0 No.564685

Why do you think it would strengthen faith?

It happens. Look at Mormonism. Total fan-fic.

fe248c No.564699

Because being confronted by some Lovecraftian monster is no different than being confronted with any other life-threatening encounter. I have nothing to lose but my physical life either way. So there is no measurable difference in extremes. Faith in Christ Jesus brings life after death regardless of the outcome of death. Death is defeated with faith, along with fear of it.

We are children of God Almighty, Who sent His only begotten Son tot he world. So I dont care about some space squids and cockroaches.

In such a hypothetical universe God would had presumably made the first few generations, Azathoth and so on as part of the process of creating the universe and the rest show up because of disgusting alien sex. Of course since Nyarl is the soul of Azathoth and literally Satan we'd probably have a neat fall narrative in there and a fascinating angle on how one of the least species is the one glorified by the ultimate being.

These same people also killed a hundred million people. I don't think their point matters.

I'm a fan of Lovecraft's stories. They're well written, gripping, and give you a small twinge of fear in the dark.

However, they're just that. Stories.

There is no cthulu or eldrich horror. If you look for them, at best you'll find nothing, at worst you'll find demons.

This, time to post our holy metal armor to fight the demonic tentacle monsters from hentai hell.

>>564973

Same here, though I'm a bit concerned that Lovecraft's attack on God's awesomeness I know, the word doesn't mean what it should anymore, but let's pretend it did and infinite nature will drive some away thinking God is cruel, unkind, unsympathetic, and unpersonable, just like eldritch horrors.

Fun fact: The supreme god in Chinese baganism is the Yellow Emperor. The chinese literally worship the King in Yellow as their patron god.

>religion has been likened to the opioid of the masses

Only by communists and other pathological leftists.

>granting a sense of comfort

No. It gives the sense of constant discomfort because everything matters and you can't help but constantly fuck up, endangering your soul.

Universe is a playground. Earth isn't a small speck. It's a garden we have to garden. And should do so with the rest of the universe.
