Christchan is back up after maintenance! The flood errors should now be resolved. Thank you to everyone who submitted a bug report!

This has been driving me up the wall for a month or so now, likely a combination of certain D&C demographics on other boards and actually being in the holiday season. What actual down-to-the-roots Christian holidays are there, even? Christmas is Yule with the serial numbers filed off. Easter is literally named after Ishtar. They were Christianized, but they are not Christian.

I'd strongly prefer something New Testament related. I know about Passover, but I want something that is explicitly and directly related to the followers of Christ, not the Jews. The only thing I can think of is Good Friday.

Should I trust this page?

Easter/Ishtar is a myth. Same with Christmas being Pagan. Think critically instead of blindly following pop culture

That is what I'm trying to do, but I grew up in a Boomer household where Hagee and the Gaithers are the greatest thing to happen to Christianity since Christ himself. I'm trying to wrench myself free of it.

We have dozens of feast days and holy days. The big ones happened to fall near old, pagan holidays. Keep in mind the Romans had around 300 a year, so of course some fall on the same day.

Easter is our Passover. We may call it by a Pagan name in English (nothing to do with Ishtar), but most every other language calls it Pascha or some derivation which in turn comes from Pesach. And yeah, Easter and Christmas have Pagan remnants and have since been utterly secularised, there’s still things like Pentecost, the Annunciation, and all the other Solemnities.

Wasn't the original holiday for Christ birth is on January?

Maybe God did it on purpose to make the transition from paganism to Christianity easier? I also believe the Roman Empire was God's will, since it made spreading Christianity much easier.

But really, who cares? Faith is more important than muh logic or muh science

>Easter is literally named after Ishtar.

in pretty much just the english language

I'm Dutch, and I'm kind of curious as to why America doesn't celebrate the big Christian holidays as official national holidays. Easter is just the thing with the eggs and the rabbits with no sight of Good Friday. No Pentecost, no Feast of the Ascension… I mean, we even have our provincial celebrations of Saint Martin and Saint Nicholas (as long as that last one is going to stick around), but America doesn't have celebrations like this. Why is that?

My condolences, anon. Glad you made it here.

>in pretty much just the english language

Which is the most important language there, seeing that the only true Bible was written in it. Mods pls don't ban for funposting

Oddly enough, the stock market is closed on Good Friday.

America was founded with a very strong Puritan tradition, which is very anti-Catholic. So no Christmas, Easter, etc.

At least they're doing something right. Is it closed on Easter Monday as well?

Oh right, the anti-fun and anti-piety brigade.

Can someone breadpill me on feast days? Are they just days to remember something or are you supposed to have a food feast?
