We love you, too.

But let's be honest, the end-goal of ecumenism isn't a dozen ancient sees getting over their issues and finding out what the real deal with primacy is, while acknowledging we've had some differences even before we split, but some unitarian universalist tier inter-religious clusterfuck where even the existence of God is debatable, or the worst of the divisions in the Anglican Communion.

I'm positively disposed to ecumenicism overall, but I draw the lines somewhere as everyone should.

I have friends that are orthodox, evangelical, lutheran, etc. We are on the same page with many cultural and political issues. We have even done political advocacy and whatnot together. I know several atheists that have become Catholic, but I've met Mormons and atheists that have converted to Orthodoxy and I'm still happy for them.

I won't compromise the traditions of the Church and don't consider myself in communion with them obviously, but I'm not going to waste all my time and energy debating theological fine points while the culture at large drifts away from Christianity altogether

At best it its a fantastic method for acknowledging important common interests and views to kill of sectarianism and division. At worst it involves a mutual change/corruption of doctrines.

A lot of the time though its just a front to try and make the other group more like your own.

That said its a great tragedy that Christians tend to be most vicious and active against other Christians even as non christian forces form very effective united fronts against them.

Pretty much yeah.

Pic related, ecumenism in the modern sense is all about paving the way for the false messiah to do a few "miracles" and draw in the masses that are too "enlightened" to hold fast to any one doctrine. So essentially they'll believe anything and will be prime targets when the time comes.

I don't think it's useful to dwell on this stuff too much, and I think one can certainly have dialogues with people with other beliefs (indeed that's our duty), but in order for (little 'o') orthodoxy to survive you're going to necessarily have to be uncompromising on certain things. And being uncompromising basically disqualifies from any act of ecumenism that operates from a """neutral""" standpoint.

Tell the truth, tell nothing but the truth, and tell people why their view falls short of the truth, and love them the whole time.

A perfect video, pertinent yet short. I have the greatest admiration for the Orthodox Christians who have upheld their faith and suffered through the martyrdom of communism, an accomplishment greater even than that of the early Christian martyrs. Truly even the gates of hell have not prevailed against the one and only Church of Christ.

He is entirely right, ecumenism is for weaklings. Orthodog protestants should repent and come back home to communion with the real Catholic Church.
