Why are Catholics averse to beards and looking manly? Traditionally pictures of saints and apostles show them as bearded men, but Catholic clergy prefer being clean shaven, neat and dainty, in general. I know a few exceptions exist

Why would a priest or a monk appear attractive? They chose celibacy for a reason. Also, gillette didn't exist back then, monks would rather pray than wasting time shaving with a knife.

I'm in my 30s and can't grow a real beard. It's nothing more than a thin mustache and a few patches which look ridiculous at grown length.
However going shaved clean makes me look like a teenager, which makes matters even worse.
So I maintain a permanent five o'clock shadow, which seems to work.

I know that where my cousin lives, all the 13-14yo girls are hanging with the 17-18yo guys because they look/are more mature.

I personally believe that wearing a beard is intimidating to folk in my experience. There are many inferences society makes when they see a man who allows his beard to grow out. However I only shaved just yesterday, I only have a beard if I'm in a rut and too lazy to regularly shave Although I'm attracted to Orthodox church dogma, I do agree with Catholic priest humble beardless style.
