>He said, “This will be the way of the king who shall reign over you: he will take your sons, and appoint them as his servants, for his chariots, and to be his horsemen; and they will run before his chariots. He will appoint them to him for captains of thousands, and captains of fifties; and he will assign some to plow his ground, and to reap his harvest, and to make his instruments of war, and the instruments of his chariots. He will take your daughters to be perfumers, to be cooks, and to be bakers. He will take your fields, your vineyards, and your olive groves, even their best, and give them to his servants. He will take one tenth of your seed, and of your vineyards, and give it to his officers, and to his servants. He will take your male servants, your female servants, your best young men, and your donkeys, and assign them to his own work. He will take one tenth of your flocks; and you will be his servants. You will cry out in that day because of your king whom you will have chosen for yourselves; and Yahweh will not answer you in that day.”

Now, God has a absolutely right description of a king. Not surprising.

I just wanted to ask this, because I AM a Anarchist, is the curse(You will cry out in that day because of your king whom you will have chosen for yourselves; and Yahweh will not answer you in that day) still active? If a religious(but kingless) nation came around, would God destroy it?

Or did he just change his stance since the New Testament? Do either the Catholic and Orthodox churches have any commentary on the issue?

The passage you quoted refers to the Jews. Christ did not say anything about political systems.

Popes say this:

>48. But in matters merely political, as, for instance, the best form of government, and this or that system of administration, a difference of opinion is lawful. Those, therefore, whose piety is in other respects known, and whose minds are ready to accept in all obedience the decrees of the apostolic see, cannot in justice be accounted as bad men because they disagree as to subjects We have mentioned; and still graver wrong will be done them, if - as We have more than once perceived with regret - they are accused of violating, or of wavering in, the Catholic faith.

Thats just a description of a particular king that was to come. And its funny, Mr. Anarchist, that it sounds a bit communistic in nature.

Remember that Jesus himself will rule over the earth as a king one day. So monarchies aren't necessarily evil. In fact I believe God prefers hierarchical systems.

Thanks, that's one half of the question. Now is the Orthodox half, but I suspect it might have the same result.

>Thats just a description of a particular king that was to come.

Anon, anon, I now have to guide you. Anon, anon, you should have read the scriptures.

>But when they said, “Give us a king to lead us,” this displeased Samuel; so he prayed to the Lord. And the Lord told him: “Listen to all that the people are saying to you; it is not you they have rejected, but they have rejected me as their king. As they have done from the day I brought them up out of Egypt until this day, forsaking me and serving other gods, so they are doing to you. Now listen to them; but warn them solemnly and let them know what the king who will reign over them will claim as his rights.

>This displeased Samuel

>THEY HAVE REJECTED ME AS THEIR KING

God certainly doesn't care enough to mention it directly, but he seems to consider a king on Earth a step down form having a king on heaven, considering his speech.

Just a daily reminder to not to mix up and compare divine kingship of our heavenly Father with flawed human m*narchies.

Now, I did not expect this reply, but I suppose I should have.

Daily reminder that not only you should not bear false witness, but you should avoid committing it. If you have poor reading comprehension, you should question OP before condemning him. It would have been better if you had not made this post.

>but he seems to consider a king on Earth a step down form having a king on heaven, considering his speech.

i think He was more annoyed with them because of their motivations for requesting a king, not for requesting a king itself.

they wanted to be more like the heathen nations around them (verse 5.)

and expressed dissatisfaction with God’s present method of providing leadership through judges.

God made a lot of provisions for kings to rule his people in the mosaic law:

<(Deuteronomy 17:14-20; Genesis 1:26-28; 17:6, 16; 35:11; 49:10)

i think everything would've worked out fine if they had heeded Samuel's warning about what a jerk the king would be if they had looked for one at that moment, and instead waited for God to inaugurate monarchy for them, and had a king like David.

>is the curse still active?

No because that earthly kingdom has long been destroyed. Everything that it said has happened. And in case you didn't figure it out yet, they were rather unique because they already had a system of judges in place set up by God before Saul. Asking to change this which God himself told them to do for any other government would have been a disappointment.

Psalm 147:19-20

He sheweth his word unto Jacob, his statutes and his judgments unto Israel.

He hath not dealt so with any nation: and as for his judgments, they have not known them. Praise ye the LORD.

>because I AM a Anarchist,

Romans 13. Also how are you any different from essentially a communist who wants to hide this fact until you've violently destroyed the current system and then you'll suddenly become communist? That's how I see people claiming to be "anarchist."

>Romans 13

Cool verses, yeah.

>People that clearly claim to be anarchists are just like communists that don't claim to be communist until they win

Cool argument, yeah.

Has anyone ever told you that you're not smart as you think you are?

>he speaks negatively of monarchy

If you read the Holy Fathers about monarchy you will find that literally every single one who mentions it supports it.

>Cool argument, yeah.

I asked you a question how you are any different, expecting perhaps some kind of answer. But sometimes a non-answer can be an answer in itself.
