I like the Biblical descriptions of Heaven (or New Earth or Paradise or Zion or what have you), though they are no doubt symbolic. A city of pure gold with Saints as citizens and Jesus as King. A large banquet hall with all types of delicious foods located on a Mountain overlooking all the Earth. I'll tell you what really excites me about Heaven, though: the Book of Life. That metaphor gives me chills. I hope that Heaven is a library of God's work, filled to the brim with all of creation and written in the most immersive language. Equipped with an incorruptible body (and therefore, an incorruptible mind capable of comprehending and retaining everything), I would love to pour over every minute detail from the conception of the universe. I want to go through volumes of the physical framework, logic and maths, and revel in the countless volumes that describe every moment of time in existence. I want to see how everything affects everything, and how each creature had a niche in the Divine Plan.
Most importantly, I want to spend eternity reading each person's personal volume and discover every single thought, feeling, and motivation everyone ever had and how they all fit together. Once I come to the biographies, I would be torn between starting with the first tome of Adam and continuing chronologically until I reached the last born human, or starting with myself (coincidentally also named Adam) and branching out in a web from those who had a direct impact on my life. I want to be able to number the hairs on everyone else's head, too, so great is my desire to understand people. I want to read the books of the people who have hurt me the most, or of the people whom I have despised the most, and come into infinite sympathy for them. How could I not love them once I find out why they behaved the way they did? Once I've read every book in the library, and all of God's passion-play is laid out before me, I want to say, "wow," and fall at the authors feet and cry out my appreciation to Him for all eternity.
That's what I hope Heaven is like.
