Is it true that all Orthodox are expected to live a pacifistic life?

I understand the priests are, because Jesus never took a life even when he was justified to, but what about laymen?

I've heard that we're supposed to be pacifistic in all cases, including the defense of property, ourselves, others, etc. True?

I'm not a violent person, but I'm a former /k/ommando and often carry for the protection of myself and my livelihood so I'm concerned that this might be an issue for me, if I decide to join this church.

wat do goys?

no we are to fight evil and uphold the law and by that means we have a moral duty to take up arms to defend what is right

Absolutely false.

Watch this podcast with orthodox speakers. Historically the church fathers allowed "just war" and self defense and so forth.

There's a huge difference between pacifism and non-violence. Pacifists run away from trouble, non-violent persons face trouble without resorting to violence. It's anti-pacifism to feed the poor, heal the wounded, and soothe the wretched. I mean, see Andrei Rublev and Hacksaw Ridge.

Depends on the parish.

Isn't he outside of canonical Orthodoxy, therefore being a LARPer?

how so?

and even if someone is guilty of some heresies it doesn't mean they are "larping", larping implies their faith is not genuine and they are self-deluded. I can't see how that applies to someone like Matthew Johnson.

For example Bishop Williamson was excommunicated several times, and might be guilty of some heresies, but no one would call him a LARPer or not genuine…

Which would be the case if he was an old calendarist priest not just using the old calendar, old calendarists are a group outside of canonical Orthodoxy

Pic is from your link, yellow line to show the problem
