at least some of them for sure

Also occurs to me that the thread may not be specifically about Catholic monastic orders. There are other forms of monasticism among various denominations - some more cloistered than others - and some even have an internet presence.

I would be a great monk. Ever since I missed the bitcoin train I've felt disgusted thinking about money. I don't use social media so I wouldn't miss that. I don't have a gf either and never had.
But of course there are a few vices that I have that I'd have to get rid of.

sounds like you were and still are coveting money
f0e28a No.552324
I've thought about it, but I feel like I would be more useful to the Church by becoming a diocesan priest.
75fdaa No.552325

Yes but where would be a better place to stop doing it than a monestary if I'm disgusted by it? It's very difficult to covet money in a place where you can't even use it and it thus becomes worthless.

yes
but most of them are too busy working and attending church services. Most of the free time they spend with computers, they usually write something, like books or other kinds of literature in general, just like in old times they did with ink and paper. Old habits die hard I guess.

It's strange because I still feel a very strong pull to the cloistered life, but the call to family life won in the end.

This. I like my gf and I like intellectual pursuits and weightlifting and being able to travel and interact with people. And I want to have a family soon. And I feel I can dedicate myself to God just as well in the real world, in fact I welcome the challenge and difficulty. And I think being too secluded and regimented is not healthy spiritually or mentally for man.

I thought about it a couple of years ago before starting work and college. I've now decided against it as I think living in the world (but not being essentially of it) and having a family are not bad things to run away from, and that is essentially what monasticism is. Monasticism is army-bunker hermetic survivalism for Christians. Nothing really that wrong with it though, and I think a lot of monks can and do benefit from their lifestyle as it allows them to cultivate holiness (which is increasingly difficult in the modern world), thus allowing them to be better prepared for eternal life in God's Kingdom.

I've highly considered it.
I want to not as a way to "run from responsibility" or from "real life in the world", but as a way to further dedicate all that I am to our Lord Jesus Christ. I've always had this mentality with whatever I approach.
However, I'll have to get rid of the passions and other vices, and have a discussion with my spiritual father

And considering it's supposed to be better to die than to mortally sin (i.e. masturbate), why would you even put yourself into the situation where you have no sexual outlet?

That's more the abbot falling to sin than an entire monastery suddenly becoming a whore house
9bbb1a No.562331
>>562320
If that's true then the monks wouldn't have tolerated the abbot. The sad fact is at the time they offered prayers for cash, and the more pious you were the more your prayers were worth. In time only the illusion of piety remained.
