Just a reminder tomorrow (Nov 1) is a holy day of obligation!

We can pay no greater honor to the Saints than by offering up to God in their name the Blood of Jesus. The efficacy of their past merits and present prayers is greatly increased when offered to God in close association with the merits and prayers of our Lord. Therefore the Church commemorates on this day all the Saints in heaven without exception, and thus honors also those who are unknown and who have no public recognition in the Liturgy

I assume it isn't a holy day of obligation in Canada. I didn't go to mass on the feast of the assumption and when I went to confession the priest told me it wasn't obligatory.

Have a blessed All Saints' Day everyone!

Pretty sure it is in Canada, but I'd double check on that.

Had a different priest for mass yesterday and was pleasantly surprised. The homily started off kind of on what I thought was the wrong note, with some crying about persecution in the past in the US, talking about signs reading "Catholics need not apply." Then the priest started talking about how now and going forward we will be persecuted for for the sake of righteousness, standing against gay "marriage," against degeneracy, and for Jesus.

He then talked about some Christians around the world being arrested and even killed for their faith in Christ, and he ended it with this:

If you were to be put on trial for being a Christian, would they have enough evidence to convict?

This has left a great impression on me.
