Maybe a stupid and useless thread, but I just wanted to tell my feels. I was just thinking and got somewhat sad and depressed that we cannot create truly alive beings. Sculptures that we make are inanimate. Paintings that we paint are merely on the leather on which we draw. Cartoons that we draw are voiced and moved by us. Robots that we make are only programed to do what we desire. We are merely puppetmasters.

Sorry if I disturbed or annoyed you with my thread. I just feel sad by the feeling that everything that we create, all of our creation is and shall remain soulless and dead.

And no, marriage and children dont count.

Well OP, you might be right, but your premises don’t really lead to your conclusion. Art was never meant to be ‘alive’, the mechanical processes are completely different to life and obviously no one expected any different. You can use your hands to create human life the same way you can use human hands to apply paint to a canvas, the same way you can modify genes, the same way you can use a firearm to take life. Whether or not AI could be alive is a more profound issue, and perhaps related to God and metaphysical things, but the non-aliveness of sculpture and painting absolutely not.
