Okay Christian I really need advice.

>Be me

>Baptized EO

>Have been a devout Christian for about 3+ years

>Constantly feel called to ministry

>Struggle with whether Orthodoxy or not is "the Church"

I can say with the utmost certainty that my heart belongs to ministry (my friends all believe it too), but I just don't know if its in the Orthodox church or not… I often feel a strong pull to certain Protestant groups. What do I do? I feel God is calling me *now*…

Pic unrelated.

If you want to work with Church outreach, why not work towards one of the sub-orders or consider going to seminary?

69d7cf No.540672

Attend church, ask priest questions. Do the same for whatever other confessions of faith you're curious about, it's not like it'll kill you.

But if you don't come back to the Church at the end, I'll find you and kill you. :)

also, how much of the Fathers have you read? That's a pretty important source of information, and especially so if you're considering ministry.

This, if OP hasn't already he should at least read the Apostolic Fathers and Justin Martyr

Also all of the Bible, but I hope that's implied already

Which protestant groups are you talking about?

You should not go with a denomination because it 'feels right,' but because it has the authority of God behind it by His word which I would say applies broadly to most of reformed Christendom.

>>540664

He may already be saved, but just in the wrong church muh man.

a895d6 No.540870

Meet with your priest, and tell him you need to talk. Find a day when you can spend at least a few hours with him, and before going there, spend an afternoon writing down all the issues and troubles you are experiencing in your life, what you do believe you are called from God to be and do.

Then go, and together with your priest, try to discern what is your call and why you're having those issues.

He may be a complete nutter, but he knows the gospel succinctly.

And he's quite serious about it, too, which is always good.

Cannot fault the man's credentials in that department.

>I can say with the utmost certainty that my heart belongs to ministry (my friends all believe it too), but I just don't know if its in the Orthodox church or not… I often feel a strong pull to certain Protestant groups.

Obviously pray, seek God, read the Bible, ask the Spirit for an answer.

I'm sure you're doing these things.

If none of this works, step it up a notch: fast and pray. Take a day, focus all on just that question alone.

I am intrigued as to why, as an EO you're drawn to protestant groups. As a protty, obviously I don't think that's a bad thing, but I'm intrigued as to why you are so drawn. Do you think it is a work of the Spirit in you? Or is there some mundane appeal? Or was it by prottys that you became

I'm feel a strong pull at times towards Calvinism (and to a lesser extent Lutheranism). In fact I've been reading the Institutes of the Christian Religion. However you may feel about Calvin, his logic is hard to refute.

My conversion/interest in Christianity was inspired by Prots I knew. Also I find Protestant theology interesting and I find the idea of the invisible Church sensible.

What are some good Calvinist churches?

eba3c0 No.541051

>>541042

Why would Calvinists even have churches? You're either elect or you're not and there's nothing you can do about it either way. So, there's no reason to go to church, repent, or obey God's laws.

3d9e62 No.541147

>>541051

Do you actually think that's what Calvin and other like-minded reformers taught? Calvin elaborated greatly on the idea of the Christian life. Although it is not necessary for our salvation, it is our duty as Christians to serve God to the fullest extent. It is an abandonment of our will for the will of God. Just because you read your nihilistic tendencies into your feeble understanding of Calvinist theology does not make it so.

Well I'm a reformed Baptist, but traditional Presbyterianism is essentially the church of Calvin.

If you live in the US then look into either the Presbyterian Church in America (www.pcaac.org), The Association of Reformed Baptist Churches of America (www.arbca.com), or even many Southern Baptist Churches are moving towards a more Calvinist mode of ministry.

But look out for The Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) as they are a very liberal denom.
