Are you Catholic? Afaik fasting for us should happen around Ash Wednesday. I fasted not too long ago for diet purposes (trying to burn fat). But it wasn't working too well so I'm going to wait for the proper time now.

Haven't decided yet, I'm somewhat new to the faith. Im not sure why I'm doing this, to be honest. I do like the idea of celebrating ash Wednesday, though.

I'm new to the faith as well, but I wouldn't call it celebrating as much as it is practicing.

Some cool synchronicity here, I actually dry fasted all day today and just broke my fast with 2 apples and and some green tea.

I abstain from certain meals on Lent and Advent. Outside of that I only tried it once for month.

You can fast whenever other than on important feast days. Usually Fridays as well as doing the friday penance (no meat). Then wednesdayif you want another day, and then if you want another day to fast saturday. Lent and advent are penitential seasons and thus dedicated to fasting and penance and extra prayer.

eh, buddy…fasting is not a diet, you know?

I mean I did it to change my diet so I would burn calories from my fat instead of from ingested food. All in all though, it's probably flawed to fast to burn fat because I probably strained my organs in the process.

Which denominations do fasting and is it mandatory to do them?

c5fdd0 No.540344

I feel fasting has lost a fair bit of meaning for me. As I fast about 16 hours a day atleast year long to keep myself looking lean.

Currently on a 2 day fast, but again this is for dietary purposes. Though on that note, it feels great to break that 2 day fast with Holy Communion at Morning Mass. And I do pray to try give glory to God through my fast and the benefits that arise from it.

I also try to abstain from meat on Fridays.
