There are plenty of places online where you can read the Bible, but with good notes? That's a lot tougher. Someone else will have to help you out there. I use a print Bible.
As for book recommendations, pic related. I think someone posted a movie chart or two in the meme thread somewhere.
Roman Catholics have compiled a list of the seven deadly sins, with further distinction between mortal and venial sin. To the Orthodox, there are no clear lines, but some sins are clearly more severe than others when taken into consideration individually. Bottom line: all sin is an abomination of the natural order and you should stay away from doing it. We can all agree on that.
My first bit of advice to you would be to join a denominational church. They all have clear stances on the issues we disagree on and stay away from non-Christian teaching. Nondenominational churches can be dangerous, as they don't have anyone to answer to; if the pastor begins teaching some insane doctrine like Universalism or Marcionism, there's no one to stop them if their flock don't stop them. Inexperienced Christians might not recognize heresy when it comes their way.
Second, I'd strongly suggest making church a fundamental part of your life. Frequent church attendance won't make you perfect, but it will serve as a constant reminder of your faith and give you a support network to rely on when times are tough.
